Set to pave a new direction in motorsports, the FIA Formula E racing series had caught a lot of attention around the world. With countries like Italy, China, Britain and even Malaysia already signing up to host the race which will tour the globe in 2014, this all-electric race might just be the next big thing in the annual motorsports calendar.
From pole position to the checkered flag; Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel proves that to master the Sepang International Circuit, one would have to prepare for any surprises that may arise like the ever-changing weather. Although it poured earlier on, the taps dried out just before the race, allowing Vettel to secure the win for the 2013 Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix.
With the Formula E All-Electric Racing Championship getting a green light from the FIA, the second question arises of where the races should be taking place. We have heard of Rio De Janiero being one of them, followed by Rome as the first European city to sign up in hosting the event in 2014. And on March 8, the organizers had released a preliminary calendar for the 2014 season, and it seems that Putrajaya is one of them.
While the debut of Toyota’s TS030 at last year’s 24 Hours of Le Mans did not go well as expected, being plagued by mechanical difficulties and a major crash, they did prove that Audi now has a new and strong competitor to keep an eye on during endurance racing. During the 2012 Season of the FIA World Endurance Championship, the TS030 snatched a couple of victories that on some occasion really startled the Four Rings.
The FIA Formula E is gaining momentum in being a world-class racing event that would probably be the mould of motorsports in the future. Aside from the recent news of Formula E Holdings acquiring 42 race machines from Spark Racing Technology for the upcoming 2014 championship, another city had also expressed their interest in holding this new and unique race event; Rome.
Still fresh from their win back in Fuji Speedway, the TOYOTA Racing team re-lives the glory days of their endurance racing years by again capturing the checkered flag for the Six Hours of Shanghai held recently at the Shanghai International Circuit.
As the Peugeot 207’s position in the European line up was replaced by the 208, it is expected for such a transition will also take place to Peugeot’s podium-grabbing 207 S2000 International Rally Championship car. And one would not have to wait long as with the world-renowned Paris Motor Show commencing at Peugeot’s own backyard, they had recently revealed their new contender for the international rally; the 208 R5.
When the thought of bringing up the electric car as an alternative to overcome the inescapable problem of the rising gas prices, some saw it as a brilliant idea; and there were others standing at the opposite side. And with the green movement now gaining a steady momentum, it has now deeply penetrated into the motorsport scene in which had prompted the FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) to launch a specific racing series called the Formula E All-Electric Car Racing Championship.

But now the automotive world mourns the loss of a great character as the calmly-looking neurosurgeon Dr. Sid Watkins or informally known as “The Professor” down in the Formula One paddock had recently passed away at the age of 84 from a heart attack.
Red bull is striving strong in the extreme sports category, and they are about to add another one into their broad list of motorsports besides of already having a strong ground in Formula 1 and the Rally Cross in the X Games. If things would go smoothly in the transition of power, Red Bull might just be taking over the sponsorship of the World Rally Championship (WRC) anywhere in the near future.
