BBS RM Mulitpiece wheel. 2 Pieces
BBS
RM is a cast 2-piece wheel. The two pieces consist of the outer "lip"
or "rim" and the inside half and are held together with 30 bolts. The
center cap is plastic and snaps in. These wheels were available on the
'91-92 16v GTIs. They are notoriously soft, and were very expensive
from the dealer when they would need replacing. Stock Lip-(notice how the face of the weave is flat)...unlike bbs rs's With Wider Lip BBS RS
Multipiece wheel 3-Pieces (For a list of BBS P/N see 7th and 8th post
down ,also remember there are so many versions of the BBS RS'. BBS
RS001's and so forth, What RS's you actually have will be stamped into
your wheel.)
It is a forged 3-piece wheel that consists of an
outer "lip" and an inner "lip" plus the center section. The center cap
is aluminum and threaded, and attaches by screwing on to the wheel.
These are very light (15 pounds each), very strong and very rare
wheels, especially in the U.S. where they were never offered on any
factory VW. They were offered on a few European VWs, however. These are
considered some of the most sought after wheels for the "old school" VW
crowd.

Re: BBS new and rare wheels - All listed with images
Hi Tom. I was searching the web for some center caps for my BBS wheels and came across your excellent thread.
My specific wheels are not listed so I thought you may be interested.
They are RG F1, a forged wheel made for BBS in Japan.
They are 17x9 42 offset.
This is the original colour.
I've been told they are quite rare. I recently picked them up on ebay.
Re: BBS new and rare wheels - All listed with images
hi madart: good luck finding the caps for the wheels, i assume the regular rs caps wouldn't fit? Well you just may be able to find the caps here through the junkyard junkies. I think i've seen BBS wheels similar to your RG- F1 but in 4 lugs. is this possible?
Try posting a "wanted" post here: Zerotohundred.com - The Car Enthusiast's Community and Classifieds - The Marketplace
anyway, here's a set in my collection:
BBS Center lock wheels from the E30 DTM era.

Thanks Tom. I'll give the junkyard a try. I haven't seen four lug wheels in this configuration and the RS caps won't fit. The caps from standard cast RG's probably do though.
I found it quite difficult researching exactly what the wheels were before I bought them. The stampings are a little different to the German made wheels (I guess because of the forging v casting process, and there are very few of them that show up when you Google them. They were actually brought into Australia by a Japanese expat who imported his Honda Integra. So I wonder if they show up more in SE Asia than in Europe.
I only paid $AU375 for the set, which made me a happy man!
