all petrols sold in malaysia are either RON92 or RON97. aftermarket additives can be added to increase the octane level.

whenever you refill your fuel tank with remants of fuel remaining, you are mixing the fresh fuel with something you put in before. over time you have a 'rojak' fuel mixture.

the only way to have one particular fuel running your engine is to drain your fuel tanks completely before refilling it with a particular fuel. fresh fuel is always more potent than older fuel. you can experience better performance whenever you're using fresh fuel.

there are additives which you can add to the fuel to make it last a few days longer.

fuels contain additives to clean carbon and other things which i do not know from parts of the engine.

however, carbon is formed only in and after the combustion area. so this cleaning additives will clean all the parts from the fuel tank leading to the intake valves. in the cylinders, the fuel-air mixture is ignited and burned. this is where the carbon is formed and since the fuel is consumed from this point, there is no longer any cleaning effect. the exhaust valves, exhaust manifold and exhaust systems will continually build-up carbon deposits.

to clean the carbon off the engine's combustion area requires some disassembly.

The purpose of the additives in the fuel is to clean your fuel line, fuel injectors, throttle body, or carb if you're driving a vintage car hehehe. also your fuel pump mechanism, etc.etc.

one thing to note about addictives added to fuel is that it may be stronger than necessary or of poor quality or incompatible with the materials used in making the components in the engine. one of the known problems which can be quite detrimental is wearing of the fuel injector nozzles.

it is probably better to ensure the fuel filter is replaced often and to ensure the fuel delivery system is clean rather than resort to the use of chemicals. i doubt engineers bother about testing aftermarket additives to ensure the components they get from their vendors are able to withstand the assortment of solutions we can obtain from accessory shops.

so what about injector cleaners? the chemical ones, do they work?

or is it better to actually manually take the injectors out and clean them? (ie goto a mechanic to get it done)

i used to buy lots of injector cleaning bottles on my evo6 back in aust...but i never really know are they working or not....but it seems to drive alittle smoother..i think!

and oso in australia they got shell optimax which got the cleaning agents inside the ron 98 fuel...

anybody know if v-max got that cleaning agent aswell in malaysia?

shell always better then mobil synnergy (my personal experince in aust fuels)

so are u saying dont fill ur car to full tank?? just fill enough to use for 1-2 days?
and how u know when the gas stations get new fresh fuel everyday?

oso aren't the fuel stored in the storage tanks at gas stations anyways? isn't it same shit with storage in ur own car's fuel tank??? or do the gas stations storage tank keep their fuel fresh with their special tanks?

just alike a refrigerator for vegies?
freshness is greatness god sounds like a vegie market heheheehe :D

it is up to each individual's preference. i fill my fuel tanks full most of the time as i enjoy the convenience and i am not bothered with any performance decrease in using older fuel.

a regular at a particular fuel kiosk may notice the business pattern of their favourite station. from this it may be determined how regular they receive fuel shipments. logically, a kiosk that is busy will have 'fresher' fuel.

shell v-power is a fuel blend that bears different names in different markets. AFAIK it is similar to shell optimax. this can be verified via shell's corporate web site.

shell v-power and shell premium in malaysia has an octance rating of 97.

AFAIK the additives in the fuel sold in malaysia are good enough to maintain the cleanliness of fuel injectors provided they are not dirty in the first place and there are no other sources of contamination from the fuel kiosk to the fuel system of the motorcar in question. therefore, there is no need to spend money on using any cleaning agents unless one wishes to experiment with a product.

if we depend on an additive to clean the injectors, the dirt must go somewhere and it will most likely end up in the combustion chamber. if it is manually cleaned, then there is a risk of mechanical damage to the injectors and other possible problems arising from mistakes in reinstalling the devices.

there is no good solution so we can only hope for the best.

all the fuel sold in malaysia contain some sort of cleaning agent(s), anti-rust, lubricating additives and some other stuff i do not know. the key factor is the more additives are present in a fuel, the less 'actual' fuel there is. so it is logical that a fuel that contains more additives or have more additives added from another source will have less fuel per volume. this translates to lower power output per engine cycle.
