There it is, guys. The upcoming Supra was spotted in a video for the first time and it sounds lovely. The footage was captured by YouTube user, Supra MKV.Com. But what was it doing in the compound of BMW M Test Centre, Nurburgring?

For those who are unaware, the next Supra is co-developed with BMW’s next generation roadster, the Z5, and both cars are expected to go on sale in 2018 or 2019. So, Toyota engineers are likely working together with their counterparts in BMW while utilizing the Green Hell for development and data collection purposes.

Both cars will sit on the same platform, with the Supra rumoured to have about 400hp and 400Nm of torque. Output figures for the Z5 is still scarce, however.

Both companies have respectable portfolios in both turbocharging and 6-cylinder engines. BMW is planning to stuff its turbo 4 and 6 for its low-slung roadster, while Toyota is reported to develop a twin-turbo V6, which is likely to make its way into the new Supra.

If the rumour is true, it will put the Supra closer to twin-turbo V6-powered Nissan GT-R. Although the Godzilla is kind of old now and likely heavier than the upcoming Supra, the intelligent AWD would make it remain competitive. We can’t wait to see the Supra go head-to-head with the GT-R. And stay tuned for more updates on Toyota’s halo car.

I doubt it will be 'only' 400hp/nm if it's to compete with the GTR and NSX, unless it is much more light weight.
