Rolls-Royce Motor Cars recently unveiled its latest masterpiece, the award-winning Dawn for the Malaysian market. The Dawn's arrival sets new benchmark for super-luxury convertibles and is targeted at a younger generation of customers desiring to own a Rolls-Royce in the growing sector of luxury goods.

What's new?

With the Ghost and Wraith representing contemporary Rolls-Royce lineup, the Dawn is basically a Wraith with a drop top; sharing both its platform and powerplant. However, 80 percent of the components are unique to the car and it even gets new tyres in a special fitment.

Also unique to the car is the roof mechanism that is said to be the largest canopy to ever grace a convertible car, and is only second to that of the Phantom Drophead Coupé.

The car is acclaimed to be 'defining the very essence of luxury motoring' by most respected road testers and commentators in the motoring world.

Exterior

The Dawn heralds a timeless Rolls-Royce design philosophy; long bonnet, flat front fascia, short front overhang, slightly longer rear overhang and high shoulder line.

Since convertibles usually suffer from chassis rigidity as opposed to coupés, the coach (suicide) doors on the Dawn however is said to add to overall stiffness and rigidity to the car as it gets an uninterrupted A-pillar design.

The front of the car shares the same design DNA as the Ghost sedan with LED headlights with dusk-sensing and self-levelling feature. At the back, the Dawn gets elegant tapering rear graphic.

The key feature of the drophead is the graceful, sensuous design roof mechanism that operates smoothly and noiseless, it changes the look of the car in just over 20 seconds even while at a cruising speed of 50 km/h.

The Dawn's fabric roof called the 'Silent ballet', now etched into automotive parlance, promises cabin silence of a Wraith when it is up, thanks to the attention given by the engineers.

There's one thing in the head of the designer; to make a car look just as beautiful with its roof up as with it down.

Interior

The Rolls-Royce Dawn is a full four-seater. According to the brand's design director, Giles Taylor, in creating the Dawn, they have accepted no compromise to the comfort and luxury of four adults who desire to travel together in the absolute pinnacle of style.

The car receives excellence in modern craftsmanship where open-pore Canadel panelling tarces the horse-shoe shape of the rear cabin, while the wood on the deck flows down the 'Waterfall' effect between the rear seats, inviting the owner or passenger to enter Dawn.

The Rolls-Royce Dawn features 8-way power front seats with multi level heating driver seat. Also available are leather and alloy steering wheel, dual illuminating vanity mirror, four zone climate control, universal remote transmitter, hands-free calling and concierge service.

Apart from that, there’s a ìSpirit of Ecstasy Rotary Controller, which is essentially an iDrive Touch system dressed-up in RR clothing.

Dawn will be available for viewing by invitation at Bangsar Shopping Centre from 22nd to 24th July, 11:00am to 8:00pm.
