Following the debut of the sharp Centenario coupe earlier this year, Lamborghini had just done the expected; chopping the roof off its masterpiece. Yup, introducing the Centenario Roadster, not so surprising, but wows us nevertheless.

Sant’Agata's latest creation was unveiled at Pebble Beach this week, with a price tag of $2.2 million and only 20 units will be built. And guess what, they’ve all been sold out.

Right behind the cockpit sits a naturally-aspirated V12 carried over from the Aventador supercar, churns out 770hp - 19 more than the hardcore Aventador Superveloce - making it the most powerful Lamborghini ever, alongside its Centenario coupe brother. The already sky-high redline has also been raised to 8600 rpm.

Zerotohundred run is expected to be completed in around 2.8 seconds, and its 300km/h figure can be reached in just 23.5 seconds. With enough space, the Centenario would hit a governed speed of 350km/h.

According to Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali, the Centenario Roadster is designed to deliver “the freedom of a true open-top super sports car for a pure drive experience”.

Following the trend of recent high-end super sports cars and supercars, the Centenario Roadster features Lamborghini’s new rear-wheel-steering system, which is claimed to both sharpen its turning and improve high speed handling stability. The RWS also alters itself according to driver’s selection of the three driving modes; Strada, Sport or Corsa, which also controls engine and gearbox behaviour, driving assist intervention, steering response and chassis setup.

Like the Centenario coupe, the roadster gets slim and wide front grille, V-shaped side intakes, ‘blown’ diffuser, a retractable rear wing and distinctive Y-shaped accented headlights and tail lights, all aimed at dramatizing the look of the car. As for the paint, the 20 lucky buyers can specify any colour they want, including naked carbon-fibre finish.

The roof is simply absent, with no alternative to provide for weather and security. Its exposed cockpit gets carbon-fibre sport seats, stitched leather, ‘microsuede’ upholstery and a 10.1-inch high-definition touchscreen system with Apple CarPlay and WiFi connectivity.

Is the ‘bedroom wall poster’ even still a thing?
