What’s the deal?

Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia (MMM) today introduced the latest Mitsubishi Triton with MIVEC Turbo Diesel engine, the first pick-up to be powered by an aluminium diesel engine. Its new 2.4-litre MIVEC Turbo Diesel is an aluminium alloy unit, equipped with Variable Geometry Turbine (VGT) and is intercooled.

Mitsubishi, known for being the first in the segment to introduce new features introduced the Mitsubishi L200 (Triton’s predecessor), which was the first pick-up truck to be offered with an automatic transmission 15 years ago.

Then in 2008, Mitsubishi raised the bar by being the first manufacturer in Malaysia to offer a 3.2-litre engine with the Triton. Later in 2012, the Triton VGT became the first truck in the country to feature the VGT.

Engine

Already a familiar term in Mitsubishi’s petrol-engined models, MIVEC provides more precise control and manipulation of the valves. With improvements in common rail diesel technology, diesel fuel can now combust at much lower pressure, resulting in lower noise and emissions.

By precisely controlling the valves, improvements in various areas can be made; delivering power output throughout a wider range of engine revs while minimizing fuel consumption. Lower pressures in the combustion chamber also enable the application of lightweight aluminium alloy engine block.

The new material for the engine block retains the same level of reliability and robustness but is now further beneficial with 30kg in weight savings compared to a traditional cast iron block.

The new Euro 5-compliant 2.4-litre MIVEC is claimed to be 15% more fuel-efficient. Power output also sees significant bump with 179hp and 430Nm of torque, 3hp and 30Nm more than what the previous 2.5-litre engine makes.

The engine is paired to either a 5-speed automatic with Sport Mode or a 6-speed manual transmission.

Exterior

While the new Triton's fame is largely contributed by its all-new engine, it receives changes to its exterior to distinguish it from the previous Tritons. The range-topping Triton VGT Adventure X comes standard with aftermarket accessories like the Shield Extender for the front bumper, new Sports Bar with Fullbox and dual-tone 17-inch alloy wheels.

The existing Triton VGT AT and VGT MT has also been upgraded. Adopting the same new 2.4-litre MIVEC engine as the Adventure X, the VGT variants are equipped with Automatic Bi-Xenon HID headlights with integrated LED DRLs and rear fog lights as standard. The manual transmission on the VGT MT is now a six-speeder unit instead of a five-speeder.

The Triton VGT Adventure comes in either 4 colours; Earth Green, Pearl White, Shadow Black and Red Solid, while the Triton VGT Adventure X is offered in 2 colours; Impulse Blue and Titanium Grey.

Interior

As the first pick-up truck in Malaysia to offer passenger car-like features in 2015, the new Triton VGT takes the baton from the previous Triton. The steering wheel gets audio and Bluetooth voice controls functions and on the 4X4 variants, it is capable of tilt and telescopic adjustability.

On the centre console, the new Triton receives touch screen audio system (VGT variants only) with reverse camera. Unique to the Adventure X variant are the leather seats, dual-zone climate control, push start button, keyless entry operation and paddle-shifters.

In order to help the pick-up truck adapt to its driving conditions, drivers of the new Triton VGT can switch from 2WD High Range to 4WD High Range and onto 4WD Low Range + Locked Centre Differential using a 4WD Selector located near the gear selector.

Safety

All Tritons are equipped with the same active and passive safety features as standard, across the variants. The truck gets Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Braking Distribution (EBD), reverse sensor, high-mount stop lights, ISOFIX mounts and child lock protection.

As for the passive features, the Triton’s occupants are protected with SRS airbags, RISE body, side impact door beams, seatbelts with pre-tensioners, Head Impact Protection Structure, collapsible steering column and collapsible brake pedal. All 4X4 variants also get anti-pinch function for its power windows.

The new Mitsubishi Triton VGT with MIVEC Turbo Diesel Engine is retailed from RM123,861.56 and comes with 2-year of free maintenance and 3-year/100,000km factory warranty, whichever comes first.

I wanna diy to connect the aluminium hose from the front of my bumper to my air filter. But i can't seem to be able to find the aluminium hose. I saw it once in kakimotor in subang but it cost about rm 50 for about 1 meter(i think)...very expensive though!

Is there anyone out there in zerotohundred who knows where to get a cheaper aluminium hose with good qualities?

URGENT!

Thank You.
