Sepang Circuit debuts 2 new facilities ahead of 2016 F1 Malaysian GP

With the 2016 Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix happening this Sep 30 to Oct 2, Sepang International Circuit (SIC) has introduced 2 new facilities, the South Paddock and Paddock Chalets.

These newly-constructed facilities are designed to cater various needs and requirements of motorsports and motoring events as well as providing SIC clients with more options and flexibility.

The South Paddock is a completely new structure near the main straight before Turn 15 while the Paddock Chalets replace the temporary chalets previously situated at the same area. The construction of the new facilities was completed in a tight timeline of just 16 weeks after work commenced on May 21.

The South Paddock building was constructed as a modular structure utilizing up to 80% recycled structural steel from the previous temporary chalets. The double-storey, dual frontage structure features 3 modules of 6 pit garages (18 pit garages in total), each with an 80m<sup>2 </sup>floor area. Each pit can be configured to combine into up to 3 pits, thus expanding the flexibility to suit different requirements of its users.

  • Hospitality Club serviced by a fully-equipped commercial kitchen
  • Operations Room
  • Race Office
  • Timing Room
  • Race Control Room
  • Steward Room
  • Communications infrastructure
  • Medical Room
  • Prayer Rooms
  • Toilets
Paddock Chalet



New Paddock Chalets boast cumulative details inspired by motorsports elements. It houses 14 chalets divided into 2 rows of 3 modules, each with an individual end unit on either side. With each module measuring at 190m<sup>2</sup> while larger bookend chalet measures at 250m<sup>2</sup>.

With flexible characteristics, the Paddock Chalets can be customized into rooms like dining spaces, team offices, drivers’ rooms or a combination of the latter two. Each room also comes with kitchen facilities and full communications infrastructure.

Apart from that, the new chalet benefits from an intelligent design features that enable the interior to stay cool other than allowing plenty of natural light. According to Chief Executive Officer of SIC, Dato’ Razlan Razali, with the addition of these two new facilities, more participating teams can be accommodated while spectators at the south paddock will also enjoy a superior viewing experience.
