The AMG 43 range are powered by next gen 3L V6 twin turbo engines, with performance almost matching that of Porsche's latest 991.2 3L flat 6 TT! Will you still worship the new era Carreras now?

I was privileged to sample the new 43s last week at AMG's 50th anniversary tribute event, which was held in Sepang Circuit. Almost every current AMG car was represent on site, for a day out with the journalists. It was jaw dropping.

Following the massive success of AMG's 45 series, they've just deployed a new range of AMG cars and yes, the whole gang is now here in Malaysia (except the even madder GLE43) so expect a brand new breed of fast sleeper Mercs real soon.

<script async="" defer="" src="//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js"></script>The birth of the 43 series makes owning a true AMG car more attainable for current fans. It's a great slot below the beastly 63 series yet more mature than the racy 45 series.

Fine, it's no where near the pedigree of Stuttgart's finest and yes, the 6k ish rpm range falls short of Porsche's class leading 7,500rpn music. If there's any consolation, the stated engine similarities still stand. Even the high pitched exhaust sound almost similar in tone.

What the the 43 series is, very simply, a fully loaded Merc but with the beating heart of AMG's latest power and drive train. It's got more pronounced bumpers and accents but retain base form, so no widebody business here.

Think of the AMG 43 as the most extreme line of Mercedes cars that sit just under the full monty V8 AMGs.

This first impression is based on my drive in the AMG C43 Coupe. But having operated the GLC43 as well, I would say they posses similar drive experience only differentiated by platform type.

<iframe class="instagram-media instagram-media-rendered" id="instagram-embed-4" src="https://www.instagram.com/p/BT8m3XbDgQo/embed/captioned/?cr=1&v=7#%7B%22ci%22%3A4%2C%22os%22%3A11079.91%7D" allowtransparency="true" data-instgrm-payload-id="instagram-media-payload-4" scrolling="no" style="background: rgb(255, 255, 255) none repeat scroll 0% 0%; border: 1px solid rgb(219, 219, 219); margin: 1px 1px 12px; max-width: 658px; width: calc(100% - 2px); border-radius: 4px; box-shadow: none; display: block; padding: 0px;" height="566" frameborder="0"></iframe>
<script async="" defer="" src="//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js"></script>First Taste

AMG's new 3L V6 twin turbo is good for between 367hp (powers the entire range) and 401hp, special to the E43 4-matic only. But they all make 520nm and that's a big number.

Zerotohundred for the entire AMG 43 range stands at 4.7 seconds, while the E43 manages 4.6 seconds which is impressively quick by sedan standards and will all do 250kmh at terminal velocity.

<iframe class="instagram-media instagram-media-rendered" id="instagram-embed-5" src="https://www.instagram.com/p/BT_Ng96Dq85/embed/captioned/?cr=1&v=7#%7B%22ci%22%3A5%2C%22os%22%3A11085.525%7D" allowtransparency="true" data-instgrm-payload-id="instagram-media-payload-5" scrolling="no" style="background: rgb(255, 255, 255) none repeat scroll 0% 0%; border: 1px solid rgb(219, 219, 219); margin: 1px 1px 12px; max-width: 658px; width: calc(100% - 2px); border-radius: 4px; box-shadow: none; display: block; padding: 0px;" height="590" frameborder="0"></iframe>

The AMG E43 4-Matic

As for how the V6 Bi Turbo tastes? It's likely the purest, most silky 6 cylinder I've ever encountered. It is also very, very linear. In fact it responds like a big 4L NA or perhaps more linear than that. But it feels almost synthetic. I sense plenty of e-trickery going on in the background striving to deliver this super smooth signature AMG 43 sensation.

Did I mention the C43 Coupe weighs in excess of 1,700kg? Yes, it's pretty hefty just like the regular C300 Coupe. But in the 43 series, suddenly the new AMG Coupe feels light and agile.

New 367hp has definitely added lightness to the big coupe but to be honest, power isn't the biggest contributor here. In truth, this nimbleness come from a trifecta of new age adaptive suspension, transmission and power distribution.

The Drive

AMG's adaptive suspension is a version of modern active suspension systems. In here, electric shock absorbers compensate for road condition and driving input, therefore delivering a tailored ride. It is a feature that technically guarantees far superior ride and handling in just about any car.

It delivers far better ride than the parent company's recent try at mechanical shocks and springs in regular C class cars. There are 3 damping modes to match the mood, “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport Plus.

On the circuit, the AMG Coupe's talent for corners shows. I am certain it is even better than the C63s Coupe, which felt monstrous and uncompromising, sprinkled with a tinge of steering lag as mentioned in my recent review of the beast.

In the C43 Coupe, there is a noticeable steering sharpness that wasn't there in the regular coupe for one, and at the high speed turn 12 corner, I was amazed by its steering precision yet again but mostly at how flat and planted the coupe was. It was when I felt for the first time, a murk that actually can and wants to play.

Super Shifts

Such immense performance wouldn't have been achievable if not for their latest 9 speed automatic, the 9 G-Tronic which sits at the pinnacle of slush box tech.

Needless to say, the more gears, the quicker things get. With additional gears at its disposal, the C43 Coupe gets an extra shot of immediacy, further cementing its awesome lag-free punch.

This new 9 speed is faster than ever before and promises the latest in driving gimmicks such as more aggressive upshifts and downshifts, with the added effect of rev matching, akin to manual heel and toe.

Generally, the 9 gear slushbox is smooth and quick, almost DCT- like, almost. But compared to its previous 7 speed, the current 9 G-Tronic is almost faultless. I detected no clunks and as far as my drive went, the 'box is precise and feels robust at every shift, all lap, every lap. Even while under the full afternoon sun.

<iframe class="instagram-media instagram-media-rendered" id="instagram-embed-6" src="https://www.instagram.com/p/BT_nNH3DxxB/embed/captioned/?cr=1&v=7#%7B%22ci%22%3A6%2C%22os%22%3A12232.19%7D" allowtransparency="true" data-instgrm-payload-id="instagram-media-payload-6" scrolling="no" style="background: rgb(255, 255, 255) none repeat scroll 0% 0%; border: 1px solid rgb(219, 219, 219); margin: 1px 1px 12px; max-width: 658px; width: calc(100% - 2px); border-radius: 4px; box-shadow: none; display: block; padding: 0px;" height="530" frameborder="0"></iframe>
<script async="" defer="" src="//platform.instagram.com/en_US/embeds.js"></script>

Activate manual shift in Sport + and the C43 Coupe shifts with double the ferocity. Its instrument cluster also displays a game-like upshift reminder when the mode is activated. Be careful though, this being full manual mode means full manual.

At the rate the revs climb, it's really easy to hit the limiter and chances are, you'd be greeted with a sudden forward lunge as the transmission waits for you to make that shift. That's also because the G-Tronic tends to shift a couple of hundred RPMs earlier than expected.

On All Fours

The 4 Matic is in my opinion, one of Mercedes Benz's greatest achievement, regardless where they rank in the 4WD tech war with Quattro.

Mercs just drive better with 4-matic, like condiment to your favourite dish, the 4 Matic is sauerkraut to a bratwurst.

With drive to the front wheels, the AMG C43 Coupe becomes more capable, adding dollops of precision to its steering and above all, an overall sharper demeanour. This ability is completely absent in their non AMG, mere mortal versions of the C class.

This dynamic AWD system by default operates on a 31% front and 69% rear torque bias. So, better grip anywhere improved traction at full acceleration, and accentuates the AMG 43's driving characteristics.

To ensure this sharp increase in performance can be fully capitalised, all AMG 43 cars will feature 4-matic drivetrain. All but the SLC 43, which is justifiable for a convertible roadster.

Mercedes-Benz Malaysia celebrates Mercedes-AMG’s 50th anniversary with a firework of new driving performance models. The six Mercedes-AMG 43 series models are no compromise racing machines with a luxury appeal combined with the AMG pedigree and a thirst for speed.

“The Mercedes-AMG 43 series models are a product of skilled craftsmen, designers and engineers who live to test the limits of Driving Performance. From coupes and limousines to SUVs and roadsters, the power and handling of these vehicle promises authentic sports car performance for Malaysia’s most passionate drivers,” says Mark Raine, Vice President Sales & Marketing Passenger Cars, Mercedes-Benz Malaysia.

One engine: V6 biturbo tuned for performance

The 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine has been designed for performance by the AMG experts: thanks to the increased charge pressure. It has a power output of 270 kW (367 hp) and 520 Nm. A modified engine control system and the spontaneously responding turbocharges make the high-tech power plant extremely high-spirited, capable of sprinting from 0-100 between 4.6 – 4.9 seconds. Visually, the red aluminium inserts in the engine cover are an identifying feature with a specific badge for the 43 series models. The E 43 4MATIC is further uprated to 295kW (401hp).

Shorter shift times with 9G-TRONIC

All 43 series models are equipped with 9G-TRONIC, the perfect partner for the V6 sports engine allowing multiple downshifts for fast sprints and an emotional double declutching function in “Sport” and “Sport Plus”. The speed briefly revs up to 2000 rpm in “Sports Plus” driving range as the idle speed is also raised. The manual mode has an even sportier response – and the transmission does not automatically shift up on the rpm limiter. With the efficient coasting function on “Eco” programme, the vehicle uses its own kinetic energy.

AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension setup and sports steering

The AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension with AMG-specific axle components features continuous damping adjustment which can be set to 3 damping levels – “Comfort”, “Sport” and “Sport Plus” – with a button in the centre console. This allows a huge spread between a sporty driving experience and a high level of comfort. In addition, with the AMG sports suspension based on AIR BODY CONTROL (GLC 43 Coupé 4MATIC, E 43 4MATIC), different height levels can be set. The AMG Handling Package with

AMG rear axle differential lock is available in the SLC 43 for improved traction in all driving situations.

With its constant, very direct ratios the AMG speed-sensitive sports steering provides for agile cornering. At the same time the steering power assistance adjusts to the DYNAMIC SELECT driving programmes in two characteristics (“Comfort” and “Sport”).

4MATIC Drive for optimum traction

The standard all-wheel drive AMG Performance 4MATIC (except on the SLC 43) is characterised by the rear-biased torque distribution of 31% on the front axle to 69% on the rear axle. This design provides for enhanced driving dynamics, higher lateral acceleration on the road and improved traction when accelerating. The noticeable effect: cornering performance improves, the vehicle feels like it is driving on rails.

An AMG sound experience

The engine sound defines the AMG experience. The selected driving programme (DYNAMIC SELECT), the engine speed and the load influence the sound characteristics. In “Sport Plus” mode in particular the double- declutching has a thrilling sound and brings a motor racing spirit to everyday driving. Conversely, in “Eco” or “Comfort” cold starts are markedly quieter.

The performance masterpiece: Mercedes-AMG E 43 4MATIC

The E 43 4MATIC combines exclusivity and comfort with sportiness and performance in unique style. The engine is further uprated to 295 kW (401 hp) and 520 Nm, the 3.0-liter V6 biturbo engine catapults the new Mercedes-AMG E 43 4MATIC from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.6 seconds.

The AMG sports suspension on the basis of AIR BODY CONTROL also intelligently adjusts the damping of the wheels to the prevailing driving situation – anywhere between comfortable and sporty, according to your preference offering you a constant dynamic drive and a high degree of flexibility.

The side view is dominated by high-sheen 20-inch AMG five-spoke light-alloy wheels painted in high-gloss black. The rear end also features characteristic highlights, with two chrome-plated quad-flow exhaust tailpipes conveying a particularly sporty aesthetic. The rear apron trim in diffusor look comes in silver chrome, while the standard-specification spoiler lip on the boot lid is painted in the body colour.

The interior of the new E 43 4MATIC is a masterpiece on its own, characterised by high-quality materials and sporty elegance. The instrument panel, in AMG Nappa leather, black with red contrasting topstitching, emphasize the exclusive nature of the interior, in terms of both visual and tactile appeal.

The superior roadster: Mercedes-AMG SLC 43

The Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 is pure energy. The SLC 43 4MATIC Coupé sets the pace of driving pleasure. The increased performance of the powertrain with instant response behaviour offers pure driving dynamics capable of accelerating from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds.

The Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 is a stunning display of AMG styling, which promises pure driving pleasure. Long hood and a passenger compartment repositioned far to the rear – the Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 shows characteristic race car attributes. In the front, the steep radiator front with diamond grille, front splitter in silver-chrome and front spoiler in A-wing design reflects the expressive AMG styling.

The Mercedes-AMG SLC 43's vario-roof combines open-top driving pleasure with uncompromised comfort in poor weather. Operating the electrohydraulic roof is now even more straightforward. If the vehicle has to move off while the roof is opening or closing, the process which was started when at a standstill can be continued up to a speed of approx. 40 km/h. Another new feature is the semi-automatic boot separator in conjunction with the vario-roof convenience feature or KEYLESS-GO: if the separator is in the upper position for increased boot capacity, it automatically moves down when the roof is opened.

A feature that continues to be unique to the SLC, including the Mercedes-AMG SLC 43 is the panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL, this glass roof is lightened or darkened at the touch of a button. This means that it provides an open-air feeling at any time, but when required gives welcome shade under hot sun. The interior shows the same stylistic continuity as the exterior of the Mercedes-AMG SLC 43. Every detail conveys functionality, aesthetics and enjoyment.

The powerful statement: Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé

The Mercedes-AMG GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé combines a sporty, elegant design with the brand's hallmark Driving Performance and the advantages of an SUV in terms of seating position, interior flexibility and also traction off the beaten track.

A significant contribution is also made here by the independent sports suspension based on the multi-chamber air suspension system AIR BODY CONTROL with adaptive damping adjustment. The front view of the GLC 43 4MATIC Coupé reveals its independent character, with the diamond radiator grille with chrome pins and a louvre in high-gloss black with insert in high-gloss chrome and AMG lettering in high-gloss chrome. The sportily distinctive air intakes in the AMG front apron feature fins in silver chrome. Down below, the silver chrome front splitter ensures an optimal flow of air to the cooling modules.

Compared with the GLC 43 4MATIC, the A-pillar features a flatter slope angle. The squat greenhouse blends in seamlessly with the side of the vehicle to emphasise the coupé silhouette. The interplay between high beltline and wide shoulders results in proportions that lend the GLC Coupé its dynamic looks.

High-gloss black-painted, high-sheen 21-inch AMG 5-twin-spoke light-alloy wheels dominate the side view. With striking design elements in black, the AMG Night package underscores the already sporty, expressive character of the vehicle. In addition to the simulated front underguard and trim on the AMG rear apron in high-gloss black, other highlights include heat-insulating dark-tinted glass starting from the B-pillar and the black chrome-plated tailpipe trim elements.

Celebrating 50 years of AMG

AMG – these three letters stand worldwide for supreme automotive performance, exclusivity, efficiency and highly dynamic driving pleasure. In 2017, the company founded by Hans-Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher is celebrating its 50th anniversary. In the course of this half-century, Mercedes-AMG has recorded numerous successes in motor sport and through the development of unique road-going vehicles, thereby repeatedly underlining its position as a highly successful sports car and performance brand – and today this is truer than ever. Today, as a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler AG, the Affalterbach-based company represents the sporting spearhead of the Group.

In this anniversary year, with an eye to the future, Mercedes-AMG will carry on the exceptional success story of what began as a two-man company. For each of the now around 1500 employees, the focus will be on the brand promise of "Driving Performance", which unites the core strengths of AMG: cutting-edge technology and a passion for dynamic, emotively appealing products. The company from Affalterbach stands worldwide for outstanding engine expertise, which includes not only development, but also the "one man, one engine" philosophy, which means that each engine is, so to speak, hand-crafted by one engine builder. With almost 100,000 units delivered in 2016, i.e. over 40 percent growth, and the biggest strategic model initiative in the company's history, AMG heads into this anniversary year with record figures under its belt.

High on power. Low on instalment.

With its superior performance and reliability, the Mercedes-AMG comes with so much excitement. So does the financing. The innovative Agility Financing from Mercedes-Benz Financial comes with so many benefits. The most significant one is the guaranteed future value of the car. Through this risk-free financing, customers can be confident in the future value of their Mercedes-Benz vehicles should the car value decrease.

With Agility Financing, customers enjoy cash flow flexibility. The instalment for five years Agility Financing plan, based on a 20,000km mileage per year for the Mercedes-AMG C 43 4MATIC, is at RM 4,998* per month. In comparison, the monthly instalment for five years conventional financing plan (interest rate at 2.08 percent), would be RM 6,576.

At the end of the agreement, customer is in control with the options to settle or extend a financing contract or even return their vehicles and upgrade to newer models. Return option is subject to fair wear and tear conditions and kilometre restrictions.

For more details about Agility Financing, call 1-800-22-6237 or visit www.mercedes-benz.com.my/agility or download the myMBFS app from Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store.

By the time can afford that car road tax is chicken feed dy.......lol:rofl:
Well the first gen C63 is already not too expensive anymore (can get below rm200k) but again that bloody road tax is the killer. Same case with the BMW M5 V10. So realistically, no. But the A45 is still quite within reach for me to maybe aim for it someday, both in terms of price (of course the used ones ya, not new) and road tax.

first gen is not a AMG with a gazillion nm of torque. And besides the roadtax, you'll have to remember maintenance! Hehe

Then again - these are mercs. I wouldn't expect even the A45 to be cheap.

The 2008 C63 is an AMG engine la, 450+HP/600+NM of torque leh! It was awarded as the engine of the year back then by some media.

Yeah of course, no Merc is cheap to maintain nowadays, let alone an AMG! But at least with the A45, the road tax is not ridiculous.

Yup, years ago had a friend who was into cars, but no budget to get expensive cars. Then he went off to the states to study and later manage to get a job and stayed on. Heard he bought Accura, here is the Honda Prelude, then Beemer 3 series then other cars that was his dream here but reality there......lol:driver:
