The other guy at the assesories shop told me if i want to install the electronic crossover, i am actually installing an "amplifier crossover" thus the passive crossover is still need as that is a "speaker crossover" ........ it sound confusing, is he trying to cheat or its something i dont know?

hope sifu sifu can enlighten me abit.......

(i told him if i pasang the electronic crossover, i need a 4channel amp to run my component....eg.2ch for 6mid,2ch for tweeter.. i dunno why he laugh at me) LOL :D and he ask me back ..."Then how many amp u want put in your car???"

Anyway i just want to know if i still need the passive crossover that came with my component speaker if i install a electronic crossover.

Thanks alot!

Maybe he never install active setup before.. hehehe ..

if you are running active, you do not require the passive crossover.

bro, if running active setup u will running each speaker by each channel.
for example, u got a set of component now cosist of two tweeters and two mid range woofer. u need one four channel to drive them or 2 two channel amp.
the active crossover is install before the amp. the rca from HU is connect to active crossover then from crossover to amp. after that to speaker.

if passive, normally it is HU rca to amp then to the passive crossover and passive crossover divide the freq to tweets and mid.

the elctronic crossover u are looking might not be a active crossover. therefore the installer said still need the passive crossover.

u refer to the products manual of different kind of thing.. then u'll learn from there. see how it goes...

some amplifier itself enable u to run active without an active crossover.

Basically, there are 2 types of electronic crossovers:

1) HPF for front-HPF for rear-LPF for sub---with this type you'll need the passives.
2) Bandpass for mids-HPF for tweeters-LPF for sub-you do not need the passives.

So when you select your crossovers and to decide on whether you want a FULL ACTIVE system, ask yourself:
1) Do you have enough channels to power the front speakers-4 channels for the 2 mids and 2 tweeters??
2) Can you find someone whom you are confident that he can tune the system right??

If anyone of the answers to the above questions is NO, then stick to type 1).

got Soong Tuning Services mar... all it costs is one Teh Tarik... :)

Another point to note is that runnign active needs more time and patience to tune.. not as easy as passive systems.

That's why it always cross my mind--how many installers out there really understand the meaning of a FULL ACTIVE SYSTEM, let alone tuning it!!

I think that would be the last thing uncle soong wants to do and furthermore, uncle dont believe in EQs that much, so why need an RTA.

So it all boils down to what type of electronic crossover i have...

i think the installer is talking about the non-bandpass crossover as i didnt see any x-crossover that have bandpass in his shop. But atleast what he say could be true as stated by pisces that some electronic crossover do need the pasive still.

I will check my crossover and see if it have bandpass ..... if have then i can just get rid of the pasive crossover (but it look damn cool ler) .... :D

Icecube, yes, your crossover can run the system FULL ACTIVE and do away with the passives.
Note that under your MID, there are a LPF and HPF for the mids.
LPF + HPF for the mids=bandpass.

Hahahahaha!! mnkh, you really understand me!!!
