The EC-204 and EC-302 are extremely versatile electronic crossovers that ensure the highest level of performance in a wide variety of multi-amp system configurations. Both feature state-of-the-art circuitry and are constructed of the finest materials and components. Examples of Nakamichi's attention to detail include fully balanced internal circuit configurations that permit phase inversion without additional stages. All level controls precede the active filters so that output impedance is unaffected by their settings. Bypass outputs provide unaltered throughput of the input signals, ensuring the simplest, highest quality signal path when the EC-204 and EC-302 are combined in more sophisticated multi-way systems. The bypass provision also makes it possible to adjust one part of the system without affecting subsequent parts of the chain.
Both units incorporate DC-DC converter bipolar power supplies, which make it possible to use the most advanced, low-distortion, wide-dynamic-range circuitry. Both also feature floating ground and Nakamichi's Isolated Ground topology to maintain high signal purity and virtually eliminate the effects of external interference. 18dB/octave filters are used to minimize multi-source interference across driver ranges. And low-impedance outputs increase resistance to inductive noise pickup.
The EC-302 is a 3-way, 2-channel design that can be used in two types of multi-amp systems: woofer/midrange/tweeter or subwoofer/bass-midrange/tweeter. In the latter case two EC-302 units can be used to allow the head unit's front/rear fader to control the bass-midrange drivers and tweeters while the subwoofer operates in constant bass mode. A multiplier switch permits the low-mid crossover frequency to be selected from the 10Hz to 310Hz range in 10Hz increments or the 100Hz to 3.1kHz range in 100Hz increments. The mid-high crossover frequency can be adjusted from 500Hz to 15.5 kHz in 500Hz increments.
