its been months trying to figure out civic variance.
i identify civic through the headlamp design.
called it "small eye" for the eg and "big eye" for the ek version.
i just can't understand the eg8 convert eg9, ek4 convert to 99 and other converted civic just goes on..
the number eg4, ek9 and etc.. what is shows actually??
EG and EK are two different generations. From the top of my head, only JDM Civic and Civic ferio models. MalaysiaDM models dont really apply, they have different codes and different vriants.
EK3 - VI / MI / ML (4door) VTI/ RI (3 door)
EK4 - SI (4 door) SIR/ SIR II (3 door)
Each model code corresponds to same type of engine
Exp - EK4 - all B16A
- EG4 - all D15B
These usually applies to Japan spec vehicles.
I gets confusing on japan export models and non japan assembled vehicles.
Example - for Singapore market, they use EG8, but different engine D16B (assembled in Japan)
- for Malaysia (Kah Motor) - the code EJ is used for both EG & EK, whereas the
code EJ1 means from 1991, EJ2 - from 1992 and so on...
okay... i know this is hard but of all the EL, MX/VTi, SiR/SiRII, EXi, RTX/RTSI and bla bla bla..
which is the best for the eg and ek class? i know type-R is the best, but what about the others?
With the civic EF/EG,
The B16A engine determined the top variant of the models. and "SIR" being the top badge. (SIR & SIR II only differ in trim levels). SIR was also used as top variant for CRX & Accord
EF9 - SIR
EG6 - SIR / SIR II (3 door)
EG9 - SIR / SIR II (4 door)
With the Civic EK (95-00), things changed a bit bcoz of "Type R" (B16B engine), the "SIR" (B16A) badge was no longer considered the top variant. The "SI" (B16A) was used as a top variant badge for the 4 door
EK4 - SI (4door) SIR/SIR II (3door)
EK9 - Type R (3 door)
So to sum it all up the top variants for civic EF/EG/EK were the EF9, EG6, EG9, EK4, EK9...all which used the B16 engine. Another rule of thumb with Honda cars of the time is that any car which used the DOHC VTEC is considered the top variant....

The 4WD Civics were more for convenience rather than for performance, as in japan alot of places use steep mountain roads & subject to heavy snow. Usually most of Japanese cars have a 4WD variant.
