if its dry sooth black in color, means ur engine is running rich in AFR... have to retune ur carburetor...
if its wet/oily black, usually means valve seal kantoi adi... in need of replacement or top overhaul...
Bro SkYwAlKeR,
I think it the wet/oily black. But here's the confusing part... when we realized this the mech just used a can spray to clean the spark plug head and he did say got tune the idling rpm bit higher on the carb.. nothing done to the engine..
But problem still remain..(engine semput...)
Yesterday brought it to another mechanic and he say not much wrong with the carburetor besides the fact that the autochoke not working.. what he saw wrong was the plug cables not good and the spark plugs are not suitable.. so change the cables and also new OEM proton plugs..
Then once done i test drive again, revving improve (more smooth) but still semput problem remains.. then he say 'oh u mean this semput ar? very normal for proton cars! It's like that wan, not a problem at all!' if u dun wan have this semput then change to EFI lor.. then start wan selling me EFI system and also halfcut di... wtf...

got check plug cables boh?
Yea bro already changed...

What do u all here think? Actually i've been living with this problem since i bought the car 5 years ago, but back then it was not that bad and it would be gone not long after a cold start. But recently getting annoyed with it as the 'semput' getting mare heavy, effecting more gears (previously gear 1 & 2, but now gear 1-4) and also it seems more 'permanent' now.. can still feel semput after 20mins driving.
But here's another something for u guys.. the problem seems not so bad with the a/c turned off..but i guess that's to be expected..

Can the carb be 'repaired'? or do i need to change a new carb?
He quoted me rm4000 for 4g15 EFI transplant including installation (he will also overhaul the engine before transplant..)..worth it?

How can the mech say this problem is normal and nothing wrong? dun tell me the previously sold saga LMST also have this problem when bought new?

wet/oily means valve seal kantoi d... or possibly head gasket and piston ring problem... need further diagnosis to find out... do a compression check first...

ur mechanic spray the sparkplug probably to clean away carbon deposits to make it fire more smoothly... yes carbon deposit stuck on ur sparkplug can cause it to misfire... check ur distributor as well.. weak distributor can also cause it to misfire as not enough current being supplied to the plugs to fire properly....

yes carburetor can be serviced and repaired... but not many mechanic know how... hence, many would just ask u to change new one....

advisable not to upgrade/downgrade ur injector size without necessary tuning.... u either run extremely rich (ruins fuel consumption and performance) or run lean (ruin the engine)...

hi everyone, I have a 8Valve SOHC 4g15 NA carb 5speed out of a c10 mirage, I have just replaced the head gasket on it and had the head skimmed, But its only reving out to 4K then valve bouncing. Its Carb is running rich, 1 Tappet is lose, and Dizzy is old and most likely damaged. Im just wondering could give me some tips on how to tune the carb, and if i could swap it for a 12Valve carb

The crank is on the block, The cams are the same to my knowledge, the valves open at the same degree, The only difference between the 4g13 and 4g15 head is that the 4g13 has a compression ratio of 9.5 while the 4g15 head has a ratio of 9.0 If you want a higher compression just skim the head

May i know if the auto choke:-

responds to our adjustment (rpm higher when turn the screw clockwise n vice versa)
rpm higher during cold start n drops after warming up

Can this verify that the auto choke is in good shape n totally functioning well?

thanx for replying.. whats the usage of compression?/ is that the only thing that differs?/ and which one is better, higher comp or lower ones?/

bro, this statement refers to the carb or auto choke?/ >responds to our adjustment (rpm higher when turn the screw clockwise n vice versa)

rpm higher during cold start n drops after warming up > this shows the auto choke works well..
