| New Jaguar Supercar to be Powered by a 1.6l Engine?
Back in its days, the Jaguar XJ220 was hailed by much as the King of Supercars. Although it was earlier stated to have a four-wheel drive system and a V12 engine powering this mid-engined speed demon, the production version only had half of those two but still manages to set a record for the highest top speed of a production car from 92-94 at 350km/h, which the McLaren F1 obliterated not long after with its 391km/h top speed.
Since then, Jaguar had been shying out from the supercar industry and focuses on making powerful grand tourers like the XKR and so forth. But that does not mean that they will shy out from the supercar scene forever as Jaguar already had something new lined up for the near future with the C-X75. While it already has the looks of a supercar; being flat and low, this new mid-engined exotic is said to have about 500 horsepower coming out of it.
And what powers this big cat; a V12? V10? Or maybe a V8? None of those actually as this new-generation supercar will only be housing a 1.6-liter inline-four engine as its main powerplant at the back of the driver’s seat! This amazing power output was actually possible by twin-charging the minute engine, which in other words equipping both a supercharger and turbocharger on the same engine.
With such boost strapped on, 0-100 is said to be dealt at below three seconds and top speed is in the range of around 320km/h. And born in today’s hybrid movement, it also has a 600-volt battery pack onboard which is constantly being charged by the engine. The batteries will then power up the electric motors, allowing the car to run in clean mode at speeds up to 65km/h.
Sounds good? It is priced “good” too as it is said to be priced around £700,000 to £900,000 (RM 3.4 mil – RM 4.4 mil), and those had yet to include the taxes. Wonder if this one could get included into the hybrid vehicle tax exemption scheme…

use small engine to charge battery and run with combined power on electric power as well as the engine power

| Re: New Jaguar Supercar to be Powered by a 1.6l Engine? Well, you are talking about combustion engine+electric motor, so better not judge performance on engine size alone. |

No longer need to have supercars whereby is roughly 6.2L with 500HP...xD
Just wonder how is the FC like

Way back, F1 was using 1.5 Engine 4 bar boost pressure. 1300 bhp to 1500 bhp. |

Way back, F1 was using 1.5 Engine 4 bar boost pressure. 1300 bhp to 1500 bhp. | Well F1 is pulling very lightweight body and it's a race car meant to be driven only at high racing engine speeds. Moreover max power is not everything, but how linear the power delivery is the more important aspect especially for road cars. True that in the 80s F1 engines were only 1.5ltr boosted so high (maybe upt to 4 bars) to make over 1K HP at quali trim, but then the power delivery was so peaky. Nigel Mansel once mentioned that his William Honda turbo power delivery was like an on/off switch, press the pedal-wait-then suddenly boom!
Well I guess Jaguar is trying to compensate the bottom end via supercharger plus the electric motor maybe. Anyway if Jaguar can make the supercar perform and drive as good as those V8/V10/V12 monsters, then good job for them. But just imagine you look at a big body, low slung, killer looking supercar, and then open the engine compartment only to find a tiny 1.6ltr 4 banger there! Not really a good sight to behold like when we admire Lambos or Ferraris with those amazing looking V8s, V10s or V12s. Or is this car actually a small sportscar like the Lotus Elise/Exige? |

| Re: New Jaguar Supercar to be Powered by a 1.6l Engine? This car is definitely in the supercar territory, what with an estimated 0-60 under 3 secs and a top speed in excess of 320kmh....The sight of the engine is one thing, how about the sound?? Sound is such a big part of the supercar experience. I doubt this would sound like a V12 now would it? |

Could it be a 16,000cc instead of 1,600cc ?
If a 1.6 can do that speed....
Then the British are far more advanced than anyone else...
Well what say you?
I can imagine how a 1.6cc "sports car" will vrroom like....
Its could be like vrom and not VVVRRRROOOOOMMM....
Probably a one inch diameter exhaust can take the fumes????
hahahaa..... |
