If u havent got E46 yet then the Altezza platform better. more solid(safety wise) and an easier fit.Maybe car a bit more expensive but parts are comparable(maybe cheaper) and easier to source.
Anyways, someone else has done a BMW convert before, featured in some magazine sometime back.....large exposed intercooler.... more like a track car than a daily drive.
just my 2 cents

Alex the so called under the cherry tree workshop is a very friendly man. Very accommodating as well but due to limited funds i was not able to do the conversion. Was thinking of swapping a 1jz into a tezza. His workmanship is very very good. They even clean each and every wire. Hehe.

For this type of conversion it is not easy especially the wiring,to make everything works(gauges/aircon/abs etc),sometimes lot of things cant work, more over nowadays car runs on CAN/Multiplex system for almost everything inside the car.It depends on how the original system works.More over if fitting engine from different brands. And the more advance the donor car wiring system is,more headache to make everything run, some times we need to use 2 ecu,the donor car and the engine ecu.

Better have same wireman doing the work from A to Z,means he take out wiring, then mechanic take out engine, fit new engine, then wireman do wiring of the new engine.Even better if the wireman is the mechanic doing the transplant.

1J?? bring it to thailand. u surely wont regret. reasonable price, very very good workmanship, very very clean workshop.. they very familiar with 1J @ 2J. even R34 transplanted to 1J @ 2J there.. crazy...
Please don't forget, their 1JZ price is far far expensive than us.
