I have a rusty 28 year old Toyota that happens to run in perfect mechanical order.
There is rust on the rear bumper and near the rear windshield? What can be done to save my beloved KE70?

What would be the rough cost to save my first car?

all u need to do is to cure the rust.
but prior to that you need to do the followings:

paint stripping
replace rust spot or custom parts
take out/put in engine, glass and interior (if needed)
primer the car

then you can paint it!
be prepared for rubber replacement as well

$$$ in general
paint strip 800-1000
bodywork 300-8000
primer 800
underseal 500
other seal 300 (body glue etc..)
paint roughly 4000-10000 (start from bare metal)

bro lolo,

you can try this, very effective though. rust might be come back, but confirmed last longer

1) ask any workshops sand off and wire brush the rust spots
2) for rear screen, no choice but u have to take it out and do step 1
3) go ace hardware shop get kurust hemmerite rust converter around Rm30 and hemmerite direct to rust pain. price varies in ml.
4) after all rust spots removed, apply few layers of kurust. then paint with hemmerite rust paint. the paint might takes 2 or 3 days to 100% dry up depend on how many layers you applied.
5) ask workshop does patching and fiber it.
6) continue your desired paint colour

This is a Nissan NV200 Panel Van. Originally, Nissan only offers them in White. Instead of leaving it stock, we resprayed it black. Why? because black is the hardest colour to deal with, it has extremely visible swirl, hologram or scratches when damaged. On top of that, a repainted paint job does not always show up shiny...
