Chrysler Group LLC's Mopar division has come up with a new innovation - wireless charging, and is considered to be the first in industry to eliminate the use of wires to charge your smart phone.

<!--more-->Who doesn't own a smart phone that's on battery life-sucking 3G these days and how many of us carry our chargers along with us just in case or how many of us have in-car charger(s) for that matter? We're pretty sure one of you (including us), if not all of you, reading this falls into one or more of those categories.

Called a "power bin" and measuring 8.27" x 9.5" x 3.25", it has a built-in charging grid that gets activated when you simply place your device on it.

Lets face it, many of us own an iPhone these days and while we just love the heck out of it, its battery life always seems to leave us wanting. So all you need to do is slip on that special phone case, which has extrememly small pins on the back of it, and then place it on the power bin to charge your phone.

Although it doesn't seem to mention which specific phones are able to be charged via their "power bin", but so far it's been indicated that they're able to charge iPhone, Blackberry, MP3 Players and Droid-based devices.

The big question is, when are other manufacturers going to follow suit with this particularly innovative piece of equipment that's going to de-clutter your ride's cabin from charging cable(s)? For now, lets just pray for 'soon'.

well... not much different from what use our in car chargers right now. i tot wireless charging means we dont need any contact with it.. something like walking with the phone in the pocket or bag and it charges wirelessly..

Yeah agree with Alantjw. But at the same time wireless charging the way Alantjw described it would mean application of Tesla's technology.. wireless electricity! Wooo.. now we're going into pseudoscience....

I don't understand how can they be the first? Wireless induction charging has been around for a few years now.
