Yes, it is really, really here. Honda Malaysia launched the CR-Z hours ago and they have good news. Firstly, the 6-speed manual version that is available now sells for RM115,000 rather than the projected 120K. Critics maintain that the CR-Z should sell for lower since it's supposed to be a fraction more than the Insight in other markets, but over here, we're just happy to know that you can now buy a 2-door Honda for the first time, affordably. Really, who cares if you can buy a Civic for the price? you certainly don't get the hybrid tech, you get 2 more redundant doors and everybody has one.

What a backside.

Following our recent announcement of the CR-Z debut, you've read the details, you would also know the CR-Z is powered by a 114ps SOHC 1.5 Litre i-VTEC engine with a 14ps Electric Motor, when combined, it produces a healthier 128ps. Let's cut to the chase. The CR-Z is the first ever Sports Hybrid to feature a 6-speed manual transmission. It is sleek, aerodynamically efficient and you get to do your part in keeping earth greener.

The CR-Z's engine bay

A cutaway look of the CR-Z's LEA1 engine.

The IMA Hybrid Motor for 14ps of extra power.

Notice the low-friction perforated skirt coating on the Pistons of the CR-Z's LEA1 Engine.

At the launch today, Mr Yoichiro Ueno, MD and CEO Honda Malaysia said,"The All-New CR-Z was developed to offer three core values, which are EMOTION look and feel; EXCITEMENT and joy in driving, and SMART driving to enable drivers to be environmentally responsible. CR-Z stands for "Compact Renaissance Zero", which represents Honda's commitment to go back to the basics to take on the challenge to create a new compact car without being bound by the values of a traditional hybrid."

People are calling it the Scirocco of the Orient

The CR-Z isn't just another hybrid vehicle to fill in the gap of regular petrol car and the electric car. It is designed to retain the perfected hybrid technology as seen in the Insight but with a triple-shot of sportiness. Aesthetically, the CR-Z has no competition. It is sleek. it looks fast. Yet, it oozes practicality.

HID as standard

The CR-Z's aerodynamic bullet design, with its low tapering roof directs airflow to reduce drag, dramatically increasing its efficiency in both overall performance as well as fuel consumption. This is especially crucial when the CR-Z was meant to make the most out of what it lacks, Power. Which isn't a bad thing as more people are starting to accept the idea of trading power for fuel efficiency these days, so coupled with the CR-Z's sporty attitude, you can now have your cake and eat it too, and If it helps, the CR-Z was recently awarded 2010/2011 Japan Car of the Year and 2010 UK Top Gear Green Car of the Year.

Nice Cockpit

The Deal Breaker

3 Pedals for 3 Times the Fun

These days, Manual cars, especially Japanese versions are dummy proof. They are very forgiving and especially easy to drive. Even so, the CR-Z has a built-in Hill-Start Assist function to prevent scenarios like a roll-back incident when stopping and going on a hill or an incline. This system simply hold the brakes on for about 1 second when the right foot leaves the brake pedal. Perhaps overly redundant for seasoned manual drivers, but it could inspire new, automatic drivers venturing into the purist world of driving.

As dramatic as when the CR-X was first introduced? You Bet.

Is the Honda CR-Z just a prettier looking Insight with 2 door less and a lower roof? Not just. While the CR-Z is pretty much all-new overall, the benchmark is set that much higher with the introduction of a 3-Mode Drive System that enables the driver to choose his/her desired driving mood, or mode. You guessed it, Good, Better, Best. The 3-Modes changes the engine's throttle response, idle stop start timing, level of boost from the IMA Hybrid motor, even steering response and climate control.

The 3 Modes: Sip, Suck, Slurp

SPORT
The engine response and motor assist of the CR-Z is finely tuned during SPORT mode. Acceleration is more powerful and steering feedback is tighter. This transmission ratio enhances Electric Power Steering (EPS) response for a sporty steering feel and improved performance. During SPORT mode, the light on the Illuminated Advance Sports Meter is red.

NORMAL
In NORMAL mode, there is optimum balance between driving performance and fuel economy. Likewise, the EPS response is balanced, smooth and agile. This mode is suitable for most driving situations.

ECON
The ECON mode prioritizes fuel economy over engine response. It reduces throttle response, optimises motor assist, controls the air conditioning economically and lengthens idle stops to maximize fuel efficiency. The Eco Assist function provides the driver with guidance on optimizing fuel efficiency.

Honda CR-Z

Hi, Brid

So who is the CR-Z really for? Certainly not people who compares it to a Civic, but tree-hugging, eco-concious buyers aiming to do their part for the environment who've still got some naughtiness in them. But with the CR-Z's good looks, almost anyone would be tempted to make the shift. Don't start choosing your colours just yet cos you can have it in any colour as long as it's Premium White Pearl.

Hmm the front view is quite nice, looks subtle and sleek and it draws ur attention at first glance. The rear looks good too but seems a bit awkward at certain angles. Can't see too much of the interior but from the little glimpses shown u can be sure its satisfying. Very sexy stance and the white really shows off the curves!

Oh, and the car isn't bad either.

So the Super GT race series just came and went as fast as it was out on the track, but it hasn't left without searing images of perspiration, tight clothes (or the lack thereof) and wonderful smiles that made an already hot race even hotter...
