If you’re still undecided about getting tickets for the 2011 Autobacs Super GT Round 3 at Sepang International Circuit (SIC) over the 17-19 June weekend, perhaps you should drop by the Empire Shopping Gallery this Saturday, 28 May, for a glimpse of what’s in store.

There will be a GT car display as well as a meet-and-greet session with Ayami Sasaki, the Japanese GT queen. A host of fun activities for the family and car enthusiasts alike will be available at Empire this Saturday.

A convoy of 25 Renault Megane cars will be making their way there. These cars are the actual race cars used in the Renault Megane Cup that is one of the support races for the Super GT, apart from GT3/GT4 Asia Cup and the Thailand-based Toyota Vios Cup.

“It is the first time the Renault Megane Cup is organised and fans can get closer to the car and know more about it as it is arguably among the fastest of its kind,” said race organizer, JP Performance Motorsport Managing Director, TJ Chin.

A Wa-Daiko performance, an ancient Japanese drum-beating tradition, will be performed. Other attractions lined up include the semi-finals of the 2011 Super GT Malaysia Queen Search. The winner of the search will be sent to Japan for professional race queen training.

Also for the first time in the event’s history, a partnership with Touch ‘N Go will make the event a completely cashless one, with payments possible by means of tapping your Touch ‘N Go card on the scanner. Furthermore, all grandstand ticketholders will be given a free Super GT special edition Touch ‘N Go card. Ample reload stations will be available at the circuit itself on raceday.

JP Performance Motorsport have also claimed a first for the Super GT series by signing a deal with RTM to telecast the race live. RTM will also be broadcasting highlights of the nine rounds in the Super GT series.

“The Super GT races are one of the most popular and most watched sport in Japan, and that is because it is more than just car racing. It is an entire package of adrenaline-pumping entertainment - from the support events, the sideshows and carnivals, music and entertainment, and of course, the very beautiful GT Queens as well,” said TJ.

The following is a detailed guide on the activities available over the race weekend at SIC.

A carnival with a Japanese-theme will be set up at the circuit. Spectators can expect to find all kinds of Japanese food, drinks, trinkets, music and even fashion accessories there. An Anime exhibition will be on hand, as will the biggest supercar gathering at the track. JPM aims to line up the cars back to back along the entire 5.53km track and they expect to require about 600-650 cars for the feat.

The little ones have their own Kids Walkabout sessions that allows them to get up close and personal with the Super GT cars for free. One of the best things about Super GT is the circuit safari that allows fans to board buses for 10-minute rides around the circuit while the Super GT machines roar by on their warm-up laps.

The partygoers will be glad to know that the Velocity Rave party will be held on 18 June at the circuit. Some of the best trance and progressive deejays in the world, such as Roger Shah, Arnej, Sied van Riel and Mari Ferrari, will be on hand to spin the crowd into a frenzy.

On the following day, a rock concert is on the cards with the likes of Hujan, Azlan & The Typewriter and Indonesian band Radja set to perform.
