Selangor
End of the road for V-Tec Gang
By AUSTIN CAMOENS
[email protected]

SERDANG: Police have crippled the V-Tec Gang that specialises in the theft of Honda Civic cars with the arrest of seven men, including a former Immigration officer.

Selangor deputy police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk A. Thaiveegan said the arrests began with police receiving a report of a stolen Honda Civic sports car on Sept 24.

“A task force was set up by the chief of Seri Kembangan police station Chief Insp Chai Chee Boon,” he said.

“Once the car was located near Taman Lestari, we monitored the area, and conducted a raid the following day,” he said at a press conference at the Seri Kembangan police station near here yesterday.

Torn apart: Cannibalised Honda car parts and Honda cars seized from the V-Tec Gang at Seri Kembangan Police Station yesterday. SAC Thaiveegan said seven men, aged between 24 and 35, were arrested.

Police also recovered four Honda Civic cars that were reported stolen in Kedah, Penang and Selangor.

“We also seized an assortment of car parts, believed to have been dismantled from other stolen Honda cars,” he said.

SAC Thaiveegan said the gang would “cannibalise” the stolen cars and sell the parts to second-hand spare parts dealers and Honda enthusiasts.

He said urine tests conducted on all the suspects revealed that they were methamphetamine abusers and four of them had prior convictions for drugs and robberies.

“We have classified the case as car theft under Section 379A of the Penal Code,” he said before handing over certificates of appreciation to the task force for their role in crippling the gang.

SAC Thaiveegan also urged the public to equip their vehicles with steering and pedal locks as well as GPS alarm systems to deter thieves.

“Car thieves are ahead of most anti-car theft devices but the steering locks and pedal locks can be deterrents.”
