Back when it first made an appearance, the Targa variant of the Porsche 911 had a removable fabric roof panel and a folding rear window to keep it that much more unique.

Back to the present though, and the only significant change to the current 911 Targa that is essentially a 911, would be some negligible chrome trim and a sliding glass roof. Not approving of the current take on the Targa nameplate, tuner Ruf has come up with its own take on the early 1960’s Porsche 911 Targas.

Just like the original, the Ruf Roadster, as it has been dubbed, features two removable carbon fiber roof panels and a folding rear window. Completing the package would be a faux paus stainless steel-effect rollbar that appeared on the original. All four corners rest on proper Porsche wheels, five-spoke 19-inch forged aluminium wheels.

The kit is mainly focused on the exterior, hence the offering of a number of engine and transmission options for the package. A non-turbo 400hp version is on the cards, as is a 560hp turbocharged version. As for the shifting options, a six-speed manual is the base offering while PDK and four-wheel drive are being lined-up as well.

Just to keep things interesting, Ruf are planning a limited run of eRuf Roadsters that will run solely on the charged juice.
