The much anticipated Proton Waja replacement model is now available for booking. Codenamed the Proton P3-90A, or now officially known as the Inspira, the new car was unveiled today at a soft launch at Proton's HQ - the Center of Excellence.

The car is a product of a partnership with Mitsubishi and is based on Mitsubishi's successful Lancer. Unlike the Lancer available locally, the Inspira will be available with the choice of a 1.8-liter with a 5-speed manual transmission, a 1.8-liter with a 6-speed virtual ratio CVT gearbox (both are Mitsubishi's own 4B10 engine's), or a range topper 2-liter 4B11 powerplant with CVT transmission as well except it will come with steering column paddle shifters.

The new Proton Inspira is now open for booking at any Proton dealer nationwide with a minimal depost if just RM1,000. Proton is also offering a 2 years or 50,000km (whichever comes first) free service package to to those who make their bookings by the 15th of November 2010 and receive their car before the 31st of December 2010.

While the Inspira may look like a rebadged Lancer, the Inspira has about 25% local products at launch with the final aim of being 65% Malaysian within a year. The time lapse is to ensure that local vendors are fully prepared to provide the parts needed to build the car.

Proton has not revealed the final pricing of the car but says that the tentative pricing starts from RM79,888 OTR for the 1.8 manual up to no more than RM95k for the 2-liter range topper. Official pricing will be officially revealed at the launch on the 10th of November 2010.

Swts for their launch tag line "Smart Guy Gets It", somehow just wonder what the marketing team is doing.
Must have been a last minute presentation rush job.

And whats worst, taking a persona front grill badge and slapping it onto the lancer bumper, right, thats real smart

you guys might call this stupid to buy a RM80k - 90k Proton, but how come there's so many Proton Perdana on the road at one point of time? They use to price it at RM103k and it was a complete replica of the Mitsu Eterna... don’t be surprised, there'll be a lot of people buying this... Cheers

just topup another 5k then u'll get ori lancer mivec. banned proton
you sure top up RM5k dude? Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0L is RM123,000...

at least for the first few batches, most of the parts are still imported.. dnt knw when Proton will start using local made parts, then surely gona be cheap...

if this Inspira can be as tough as Perdana, i think is worth it.
Like it or not, depend on personal preference.

Proton has to give 17 inch alloys and lower profile tires for Inspira's 2.0. Not the same as the ugly 1.8 liter model's sport rims.

Just like Honda Civic and Kia Forte. Even the Toyota Corolla 2.0 liter gets different wheels compared to 1.8

Probably the reason its 80k - 90k is because of the engine, need to pay hell of a lot of royalties to Mitsu i guess. Maybe some years down the road, they will replace it with their Campro CPS engine and bring the price down? :stupid:. Personally I wouldn't pay 80k for the car. People ask why think a Jap or Korean 1.5 is better than a new Inspira 1.8 cvt? They fail to realize the headache some people face when buying protons, if you are unfortunate you'll get a car that has to be repeatedly sent to the workshop within 1st year of ownership! This is not to mention the lousy service received at some of their service centers. Many of us buy Protons not because we are nationalistic, we buy them because they are cheaper (not 'cheap' by 'cheaper)') than Jap/Korean cars. If their prices start creeping into Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai's territory - then God help them.

i dont know what are proton management thinking. it just move backward like what are they doing for Proton saga n proton wira. that not what a Car maker doing after 25 years. why do they hired engineer graduated from oversea if they dont wanna do RnD? they only need a technician with SPM certified if just to assemble mitsubishi car.

well as i said before stop to buy them they will stop to sell them.as simple as this.and please dont give me the oh but protons are cheap to buy and service.huh no they are not.when i see family buying proton or perodua for their lovely children.mhmh have u ever see a proton on a crash test before????i rather buy my kids an old volvo 240 and know that they ll be safe than buying any locals copycat crap.UK market even send them back to malaysia cause at 50km/h in a simple crash test the whole car was totally destroyed.just look at most accident when people get kill.be smart as they say by not buying dangerous cars.
