Hey guys,

Have the opportunity to pickup a 2001 Altezza quite cheap, only issue is it is showing the Check engine light, trc light and ect light (is quiped with automatic transmission)

The car drives fine however, gearbox is smooth and power comes on strong.

Just wondering if anyone here has experience with these cars and if its an easy fix or whether its better to walk away?

Cheers.

Those lights are there for a reason. If you're buying from a direct seller see he'll agree to bring the car to a mechanic that has the diagnostic tools and get those lights checked out. It could mean the start of a possibly catastrophic problem.

I guess he already bought it since he said he manage to pick up one :listen:

Engine light and few lights on, I dare not buy until I get it fix at my mech and the seller pays for it.

Yeah although thats the reason its cheap, its being sold by a disposal company as a ex finance company repossession. What im really asking is from anyones knowledge or experiance, is buying a car with these warning lights showing worth the risk? Could it be something minor or is it a catastrophe in the pipeline?

Considering the car in the market now sells for 60k to 80k, how cheap is cheap in your case? If it's anything less than 40k then just buy it. Then slowly fix it up. Still more worthwhile than buying a car with unknown history and at full price.

If it's 55k and above, it's a gamble.

well sometimes its just as simple as cleaning the sensors, plug it back and the lights will be gone.... and by default, the lights are there to tell the driver that these items are at fault.... from the diagnostic you may find the error code and you may troubleshoot them accurately.... also mr google also have a lot of trouble code eliminator if you have the time to browse... but if you plan to convert to 1jz soon... then drive moderately until you find the new engine..... btw 1jz in a tezza with manual trans really rocks bro!

If its dirt cheap, like RM20k cheap, just buy it and throw the engine and transmission out. The engine will fetch a good price. Then jeng jeng jeng..crowbar a 2JZ in. And volla!

Of course, CELs would light up like a christmas tree.

Although the camouflage makes the car pictured look like something of a cross between a hearse and a delivery van, it is in fact a Ferrari, quite possibly a new 2+2 in the granturismo form factor. Spied testing at the track in Fiorano and snapped by a photographer, the new car is breeding rumours quicker than it runs laps.

The new Ferrari is expected to...
