We’ve posted some spy shots already of a mule for the upcoming Ferrari 612 replacement that’s due in March this year and earlier reports indicated that the car might be getting a more shapely derriere, possibly leaning towards a fastback shape.

Now these photos of a heavily camo-clad model out testing in Maranello have hit the web with heartbreak and blasphemous accusations being thrown in reaction to what looks like a hatch design.

Fear not though as the car is most definitely not taking on the persona of a hatchback or shooting brake. The photographer that posted these shots to the FerrariChat forum stated that the rear of the camo cloth raised and lowered according to the speed of the car, a clear indication that it’s just an attempt to hide the real shape of the car.

Furthermore, the rear lining you see is actually just masking tape to hold down the camo and that the real body colour is blue, which is coincidently one of the factory colours for the outgoing 612. The poster went on to add too that, “The sound of the caris unbelievable, especially when downshifting.” Guess that 6.3-liter V12 churning out 670hp to all four wheels through a seven-speed gearbox isn’t going to disappoint, not like that was a fear to begin with.
