You would expect the world record for the longest drift to be held by one of the regulars on the Formula Drift circuit, and up until about last week, you would have been right. The previous record for the world’s longest drift was held by Vaughn Gittin Jr. in a bone stock Ford Mustang which he drifted around the Las Vegad Motor Speedway back in 2008.

Now however, Mauro Calo calls the record his own after setting the new record behind the wheel of a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG at Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands in the UK. He kept the tail of the C63 AMG out and the tyres gloriously lighted up for a continuous 2,308 meters, 394 meters over Gittin Jr’s previous record. Just to put things in perspective, the difference between Calo’s record and Gitting Jr’s record is more than the length of a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier.
