MALAYSIAN SUPER SERIES 2006 - ROUND 1 | Sepang Circuit

Report: Sepang International Circuit

Top Malaysian driver K.Perajun swept aside his rivals in the inaugural battle of the supercompact sub-1000cc machines at the opening round of the Malaysian Super Series at Sepang Circuit here today.
Driving a turbo-charged Perodua Kancil, Perajun, a regular at various track racing events in Sepang and Johor Circuit, Pasir Gudang, led from start to finish to take a firm control of the Supercompact Championship, which will run in five rounds this year with the Malaysian Super Series.

The entry of the new sub-1000cc machines generated huge interest among the competitors and enthusiasts and chief organiser Jefri Jamaluddin expressed optimistism that the grid would increase up to 25 cars as compared just 12 for the first round.
“My congratulations to Perajun; who drove a superb race today. He was way ahead of the other drivers; but I believed the next round will not be as easy for him,” said Jefri, who also competed in his naturally aspirated (non-turbo) Kancil.

Commenting on his victory, Perajun said he looked forward to the next round in May; adding that he hoped that there would be more entries.
“This is a very good championship and I know that there many racing enthusiasts who are keen to compete. The championship will definitely help develop motorsports in Malaysia especially among the grass root level,” added Perajun.

Australian Peter Hills dominated both Race 1 and Race 2 of the Supercar Championship; leading both races from start to finish.
“Believe it or not, I had problems with my brakes in the second race. But, they just work wonders in Race 2 though it was drizzling and the track was wet. I was hugely relieved,” said Hills.
2003 Supercar winner Jimmy Low was a class above his rivals in the Supersaloon Championship as he smoothly steered his Honda Integra DC5 to victory in both Race 1 and Race 2.
