BBS Unveils Its Latest Wheel Technologies in Malaysia

Shah Alam, Sunday, March 18, 2007 - BBS, the world’s technological leader in the development and manufacture of high quality light alloy wheels for racing and road cars, unveiled two of its latest innovations in wheel technology, “Air Inside Technology” and “Forging”, to the media during a press conference held in Concorde Hotel, Shah Alam.

Ms. Simone Gaiser, Aftermarket Sales Manager of BBS Kraftfahrzeugtechnik AG, Germany was present at the event to share on the latest patented “Air Inside Technology” BBS Germany has developed. She revealed that the secret of making a big wheel light and also extremely safe at the same time is to create the amazing “More air, less weight” condition for the wheels. “We use hollow chambers instead of aluminum, and the wheels which have circumferential hollow chambers and hollow spokes give a significant reduction in weight and improve stability considerably. As a direct result, both the driving dynamics and comfort are improved tremendously and at the same time, it guarantees maximum safety while on the road.

“The success of this technology is motivated by the company’s promise to develop and pursue innovative and environmentally-oriented concepts that point to the future”, Ms. Gaiser added.

Also present at the event was Mr. Masahiko Sadaike, Manager of Export Department of Washi Beam Co., Ltd., associate company of BBS Japan, who shared on the “Forging” technology, the same technology used to manufacture the Formula 1 wheels and the Original Equipment forged wheels used in a variety of high-performance and luxurious cars, such as Porsche Carrera, Ferrari and Ford GT.

During his presentation, Mr. Sadaike said that the process of forging, which is forcing a solid billet of aluminum between the forging discs under an extreme amount of pressure, will create a very dense, strong and therefore light finished product. “BBS forged wheels are not only light, they have been designed to handle all environments with more grace and safety as compared to other ‘light weight wheels’ available in the market”.

Five new wheel models were also displayed at the event for the media to obtain a clearer understanding of how the two technologies are being applied. The new wheels at display were the CKII (18”, 19” 20”), CYII (19”) and AI (20”, 22”) manufactured by the “Air Inside Technology”, and the RG-H (17”) and LM-R (19”, 20”) manufactured by the “Forging” technology.

Premium brands belong together and it is a natural combination and course to take”.

When greeted at the track, Mr. Eibach also spoke enthusiastically about the differentiating points in Eibach’s products, “The main aspect of Eibach suspension components is the evident improvement to the driving characteristics brought to you directly from Motorsports. “This is where we keep our competitive edge: we only lower the vehicle’s centre of gravity as far as it is technically practical to, and upkeep the performance, handling and joy of driving as our key priorities”, he explained.
