Insanely High 4AFE Fuel Consumption

Hi... I got a problem here and do not what is wrong. Hope all sifu can put in some opinion to help...

I'm I just bought and am now driving a year 97 Corolla AE111. 1.6 litre 4AFE engine with auto transmission. This engine is reknown for is fuel economy and power in the 1.6 litre class. But my car only manages 330km for RM80 of RON97 fuel (mix city and highway driving). Isn't this a bit insane? It's around 24 cents per km or 41km for RM10!!! I know auto gearbox consumes more fuel but is this really the reason? Seems too much! Some 4AGEs are even more economical. This consumption is killing me as I drive average of 60 kms a day because of my job

Is your O2 sensor working? Check you ECU for error codes? If none then try to reset the ecu? Clean your fuel injectors? What engine oil are you using? 20w50?

My 3SFE worst. Full tank ron95 RM80 just around 300km only .. duno is o2 sensor problem or ecu needs retuning .. i think is the o2 sensor problem

I've checked the exhaust. Standard 1.75 inch piping. Only the muffler bigger. So shouldn't be affecting. Do you think changing to manual gear will do any good? I've been using wira 1.3 and ascend 1.6 manual and they give me 57 - 61 kms for RM10 petrol!!!

I haven't check O2 sensor. Will send for diagnosis soon. Oil, I'm not sure what number. But I've always used 76 semi-synthetic. Very smooth and powerful compared to many other.

Standard pipe so big? The pipe came with the car or you modded it? Changing to manual will not solve any problems, you need to find out the main cause first

Im driving a stock AE111 with stock 4AFE Manual. Im manage to get 50km/RM10 for RON97, mainly city use. If i keep running 4k rpm, can mange to get 40km+/RM 10 @ RON97. My O2 sensor have no problem.

Standard pipe so big? The pipe came with the car or you modded it? Changing to manual will not solve any problems, you need to find out the main cause first

Have u done overhaul or anything?
What's the rpm at 110kmh? When was the last time u changed ur clutch set?

My AE111 auto is running 60km for RM10 in city drive with my current gb kick-down problem because it's shifting only at 3-3.5k rpm. Usually can get 65-68km. Highway can get 70-80km if i run 110-140kmh all the way.

FC....need a lot of checks
Ur air filter, fuel filter, how's ur driving , ur engine healthy, clutch plate and many more..
if running standard la....i suggest u go to known workshop and check...easier
no need to get headache..and make sure get ori part..

RM10 get 60km... Now that's what I'm talking about... 4AFE suppose to be like that. Here in sabah, I baraly can reach 80 km/h because of stupid drivers in front of me who have all the time in the world. FYI, people here drive around 60 - 80km/h. Therefore, the lockup clutch seldom engages (around 80 km/h) which suppose to mean poorer fuel economy. But I know even so, the FC shouldn't be this bad. I drive very light-footed and usually go around 60-70 km/h at 2k - 2.3k rpms.

O2 sensor? I suspect is O2 sensor and exhaust sensor. But will O2 sensor really affect that much? I cannot simply change sensor because one O2 sensor at UMW costs about RM650.00!!! I don't know is it gearbox or not...

My 4afe auto running twinpipe 20v, apexi open port, going average of 50km per rm10 combine, heavy footed.. if u keep a above 80kmh thats the lockup kick in rpm will at 2k, dun rev above 2.5k then u will hav the best FC possible..

For my 3sfe, rm10 can go around 47km only. I'm a quite heavy footed driver but i'm driving a manual & usually shifts at 2k~2.5k .. 90% city driving, 10% highway.

2.0 heavy body, wat the FC b4 this..? many thing can cost bad FC, engine problem, clutch slip, piping leak, engine lose compression, aircond not cold just to name a few.. :hmmmm:
