How closely can you make your car look like a police car and still be within the law

How closely can you make your car look like a police car and still be within the law in your country/state?
The laws generally vary by state, but the general rule is if people reasonably assume you are a police officer, then you’ve gone too far.

Follow the style of police car from other countries? Perhaps that is possible as long as you don't put in the word Police over there?

If you do it in M'sia, you'll probably get vandalized by common people and then arrested by cops for impersonation
