Love the Honda Civic? Then let’s give a warm welcome to the 9th Generation of the best-selling mid-sized sedan, officially launched today by Honda Malaysia at the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). With the 1st generation tracing back to nearly 40 years ago, the Civic line has triumphed above its rivals by offering a high level of driving performance, quality and fuel efficiency for a car in its class. And they are set to maintain their reputation with the introduction of four new variants for the 9th Generation Civic; the 1.8S, 2.0S, 2.0 Navi and the Hybrid 1.5.

New features of the 9th Generation Civic

  • All the variants come with a 5-year warranty with unlimited mileage (IMA Battery Warranty valid for 5 years with unlimited mileage)
  • 5-inch Intelligent Multi-Information Display (iMID) for information display (1.8S, 2.0S and Hybrid 1.5), 6.1-inch Navigation + DVD player with reverse camera (2.0 Navi)
  • Hybrid 1.5 gets full import and excise duty exemption untio 31 December 2013
  • Scores a 5-star from EuroNCAP safety ratings
  • Combines VSA and Motion Adaptive EPS to give drivers control during understeer/oversteer
  • Smart Entry and Pust Start Button (except for 1.8S)
  • 5-speed Auto with Paddle Shift Control (2.0S and 2.0 Navi), Continuous Variable Transmission (Hybrid 1.5)

And as a plus point to attract more customers, the new Civic comes with an attractive 5 years warranty with unlimited mileage and also a 10,000km service interval, reflecting their confidence in the built quality in extending the service intervals. The 1.8S’s i-VTEC SOHC churns out 141PS at 6,500rpm with a maximum torque of 174nm at 4,300rpm, while the i-VTEC SOHC on both the 2.0S and 2.0 Navi produce 155PS at 6,500rpm and a torque of 190Nm at 4,300rpm. The Hybrid’s 1.5 i-VTEC coupled up with an Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) in the meanwhile has 110PS at 5,500rpm and 172Nm of torque at 1,000-3,500rpm in its disposal.

HID headlights come as standard for the 2.0S and the 2.0 Navi, while the 1.8S and the Hybrid makes do with the halogen headlights. But all of them do come with front fog lights installed on the front bumper of the car. And to meet the extra needs of a driver in a car today, the Civic comes with an Intelligent-Multi Information Display (i-MID) that acts not only as a display for the built in Navigation system + DVD player and the rear view camera display (for the 2.0 Navi only), the iMID also displays the driving information like the fuel consumption and also the warning and information messages.

Honda also equips the new Civic with an excellent audio system that allows WMA/MP3 CD playback, besides of enabling drivers to enjoy music through the USB port or even the Aux Jack for iPods or iPhones. Wireless connectivity through Bluetooth is also provided for a hassle-free in-car entertainment. All of these functions could be easily accessed by the driver through the buttons on the steering wheel.

Honda also puts a great focus in making the Civic a safe and stable car to be driven in Malaysia, especially with our climate that receives huge rainfalls all year. All of the Civics has Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Electronic Power Steering (EPS) and dual front SRS airbags as standard, while the 2.0S, 2.0 Navi and Hybrid provides extra protection for the occupants with side airbags with Occupant Position Detection System.

The new Honda Civic goes into Malaysian market with an attractive price tag, starting from RM115,980 for the 1.8S, RM131,980 for the 2.0S and RM136,980 for the 2.0 Navi. And to pull more people into the green initiative, the Hybrid goes with a tag of just RM119,980.

the rear looks 80% identical to 2005 toyota camry.
I think it looks even more similar the Proton Persona back end, especially due to the rear lights. The front still looks similar to current gen.
From the photos so far, I don't really fancy the overall proportion of the car with much shorter and bulkier rear, which is kind of similar to the Preve proportion. Not sure if seeing it in the flesh.

This car has sleeker stance than 8th gen, but they need to rework the rear end. Probably the facelift will look better.
Dashboard is chunky and boxy, its a bit here and there, hit or miss.

It was a twist of a different kind that will be keeping Ken Block out of the Rally of Portugal following an accident that saw him send his Ford Fiesta WRC car airborne with multiple rolls mid-air before coming to a halt on its side in a ditch.
