its a name of the brand of standalone ecu/ems (engine control unit/engine management system). it replaces your original ecu, and its programable, so you can tune the engine through the ecu, like the fuel map and ignition timing.

a new stand alone ecu mostly cost from 3k all the way up to 14-15k. powergain depend very much on your engine and other aftermarket parts.

ur stock ecu is not programmable, no modifications can be done on the ECU , unless u play with the electronic chip there.
standalone ecu , is to fit any cars according to the wiring, then program A-Z all the settings u need , only modded cars take this option , y must a stock car which settings need no modifications take a programable ecu like haltech/microtech :)

it will UP ur hp IF and only if , ur settings are no longer cope with stock ecu cos u modded ur car.

FYI there's alot more brands than haltech or microtech, and i bet there's still some brands outthere that we never heard of or not available in malaysia :D
