ESPN Star Sports (ESS) is going all out this season to rope in Malaysian fans and viewers of Formula One with a host of new features for its subscribers, including the first high-definition broadcast of all races on ESPN HD.

Together with its broadcast sponsor Petronas, ESS will showcase some of the most comprehensive coverage of the 2011 Formula One season in the region with full coverage of all 19 qualifying and race sessions, totalling in excess of 600 hours of Formula One content with interesting pre and post-race programmes.

The Race Day and Chequered Flag shows, hosted by Paula Malai Ali, Steve Dawson and former Formula One driver Alex Yoong, will keep viewers informed and up to date on the current season with a pre-race brief and a full post-race wrap-up. Fans can also look forward to the Star Sports Live commentary team of veteran race commentator Steve Slater and former Jordan Grand Prix chief designer and technical director, Gary Anderson, providing comprehensive technical expertise, especially on the new rule changes for 2011.

This year marks 20 years that ESS has been broadcasting the pinnacle of motorsports and the ESPN Player feature will allow viewers the ability to control and decided where, when and how they want to watch the races.

“Over the years, we have enjoyed a productive partnership with ESPN Star Sports for the live broadcast of the Formula One championship in Malaysia and across Asia. We are pleased to continue our association with them as this is a strategic partnership that will not just take our brands further across the region but also underline Asia’s growing stature and presence in Formula One specifically and motorsports in general,” said Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz, General Manager, Petronas Motorsports.

“This season’s Formula One is expected to reach new heights and we are proud to have Petronas as a valued partner. We are delighted to cover the Formula One across so many new exciting platforms, including unparalleled image and enhanced sound quality on ESPN HD, and this is testament to our commitment to continue serving the fans by offering them the most enriching and engaging F1 experience,” added Adam Zecha, Executive Vice President, Head of Sales for South East Asia, ESPN Star Sports.

The launch of ESS’s Formula One season was held at the Sunway lagoon Extreme Park with a go-kart competition as well as Slater and Dawson previewing the 2011 season.
