Dilantha Malagamuwa did a Sebastian Vettel as he cruised to his second consecutive victory in the opening round of the Malaysian Super Series (MSS) at Sepang International Circuit (SIC), cruising to a comfortable win in Round 2 and building up the crowd before the Formula One Grand Prix got underway.

This time around the race was incident-free, unlike the first one that saw two drivers crash into a stalled car on the grid and forcing the safety car to come out. One again too, Dilantha experienced a slow start that allowed Mok Weng Sun to surge ahead.

Nonetheless, Dilantha’s Lamborghini Gallardo LP560 was too powerful for Mok’s Porsche 911 GT3 and the Sri Lankan duly regained the lead at Turn 9 on the same lap and not looking back since to take the win in 21:40.797 for the 10-lap race.

Mok came in second for Team Porsche Club Singapore, 7.019 seconds behind Dilantha and ahead of Ian Mao, who came in third overall and second for the Malaysian GT class. Stewart Seatter won the Open GT class but came in eighth overall in his Mazda RX-7 with Singaporean Simon Waters taking the Sports Production class in his Aston Martin N24.

It was a double win for Perajun Krishnan as well as the Malaysian won the first round too in his Honda Integra DC5 in the Touring Production class.

“We are happy to be partners with Michelin for the MSS and their support for the provision of tyres in this race was flawless. Our collaboration will remain for the whole year including for the upcoming Malaysia Merdeka Endurance Race in September. The partnership has indeed elevated the status of the MSS and this marked the new beginning of this national series on more international platform,” said Razlan Razali, Chief Executive Officer of SIC.

The second round of the five-leg MSS this season would be held in May.
