It’s been 13 years now since the BMW X5 was launched, there’s been more variants of BMW’s Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) with the introduction of the X6, X3 and X1 as well as a host of engine choices with the recent inclusion of turbo chargers. Even the upcoming X1 for 2013 will be getting BMW’s twin-scrolled forced induction crammed into the already small SAV.

<!--more-->The US never did get the first batch of X1, and since it’s getting some updates to its already ‘good looks’, it’s heading straight for the US by September 2012 and will be offered with a choice of either a 2.0L 4-cylinder or a 3.0L inline-6.

The 2.0L 4-cylinder engine outputs 240bhp and 352Nm of torque that’s managed by an 8-speed automatic, which should seamlessly send all that to the rear or an all-wheel drive configuration. The updated X1 will hustle from zerotohundred in 6.2s with the all-wheel drive coming in a close second just 0.1s slower.

As for the 3.0L inline 6 with a turbo charger, the N55 block contains all that 300bhp and 407Nm of torque and will only possess a 6-speed automatic.

The X1 will be offered in either xLine or SportLine with an optional M Sport package. The xLine is more luxury oriented for both the interior and exterior, whereas the SportLine adds a dash of ‘cool’ with a splash of piano black and contrasting red.

The M Sport package will be made available for all X1 models, and will include up-rated suspension, sport seats and steering wheel, aero kit and 18” rims. All-wheel-drive models also receive "Performance Control" with the M Sport package, which helps up to 80% of the engine’s power find its way to the rear when cornering whilst applying one of the rear’s inner brakes to help turn the X1.
