The teams still battling it out on track are at the halfway mark as the 2010 Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race enters its sixth hour with things sailing smoothly so far.
Things have been relatively quiet on track following the Team Empire Motorsport’s Lotus 2 Eleven that was engulfed in flames during a refueling mishap and severely injured a mechanic as well as a couple other pit crew and innocent bystanders.
A change in the leaderboard sees the Arrows Racing Lamborghini LP-560 in the lead ahead of the pack now with the Audi Race Experience Team Joest R8 GT hot on its heels, having moved up to second now from fourth and is only a lap behind.
Completing the top three spots for now is the KK Performance Team and their Lamborghini LP-560. The defending champs, the Petronas Syntium Team, currently occupies the fourth and fifth spots in their respective BMW Z4 M’s. They might be slightly off the pace but there’s still another 6 hours to go.
In the Touring Production class, Honda Malaysia Racing Team is maintaining its vice grip on the lead but the JC Racing Civic Type-R is right on its tail, only a lap behind.
The Mofaz Racing team is now down to just one car on track after their Aston Martin DBRS9 called it a day with mechanical gremlins in its tummy. That ended the hopes of Fairuz Fauzy, his brother Farriz and third driver Rizal Ramli for the race. However, the team’s other car, a Lotus Exige, is still battling it out on track.
As for the Wing Hin Motorsports Toyota Altezza, the trio of Kenny Lee, Chua Kuan Chiew and Chris O’Shannessy are occupying the seventh spot in their Touring Production class.
Another Altezza, of the Kegani Racing team with Hsiao Tung Wei, Jon Teo and Chan Mun Leong behind the wheel, is in twelfth spot in their class.
