Volkswagen Passenger Cars Malaysia (VPCM) made a surprise launch of the new Volkswagen Beetle Dune. Manufactured in Mexico, the car is priced at RM179,990 and only 50 units is made available here.
Exterior
The rugged Bug can be differentiated from the regular Beetle by its more aggressive front bumper design, extended side sills with contrasting Dune scripting stripes, a two-tone ducktail-style rear spoiler, Xenon headlights with LED DRLs, LED tail lights, matte plastic body mouldings, silver door mirrors and a front and rear skid plates. The car rides on 18-inch ‘Canyon’ 2-tone alloy wheels and with a 10mm raised height.
Interior
Cabin-wise, the Bettle Dune is equipped with ‘Vienna’ leather upholstery, Climatronic dual-zone auto climate control, a multifunction steering wheel and a Composition Media head unit with a 6.5-inch touchscreen.
There’s also Dune lettering on the steering wheel, together with yellow stitching on the steering wheel, gear lever and handbrake lever.
Engine
Propelling the Beetle Dune is a 1.4-litre TSI turbo 4-cylinder engine, good for 148hp at 5,000-6,000rpm and 250Nm of torque at 1,500-3,500rpm. Power is sent to the front wheels through a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch gearbox.
Performance wise, the Dune completes the Zerotohundred run in 8.8 seconds and is 200km/h capable. Combined fuel consumption is listed at 5.5 litres per 100km.
