My original size is 195/60 R15..
I've got friends suggesting to change to 50 series because there's more choices and the ride is better than 55 series..
Bro., if original size is 195/60R15, you can go down to 195/55R15, which is actually smaller already by 3.19% in overall diameter.

You cannot use 195/50R15. It is too small and will look funny too. Diameter is smaller by 6.37%.
If 195/50 then must use 16" as in 195/50R16

Guys, i was wondering whether I could go for 225/40/17? Now i am currently using 215/45/17.

My initial plan to get 18" but keep the 17" Tyres..

possible? If not, what you guys recommend?

Bro., why do you want to do that?
Firstly, I don't think there are tyres in that size (225/40R17). If have also is odd size. Less choices means more expensive also. However you can opt for 235/40R17 which is a more accurate conversion size. Tyres have but very expensive. Also rims needs to be 8.5J.
Another size you can convert to is 225/45R17, but best to keep 215/45R17 if that is original size, because many tyre choices and tyres are cheaper in this size.....

That I should ask you because you post one....ha! ha!
My percentage refers to overall diameter change.

165/55R14 is not odd, but less choices in performance model. Best were Yoko AD-07, Michelin PP2 and BS RE-030. Since now you found PP2 use that.....
If not performance model, Silverstone, Conti, Kumho, Dunlop all have in your size.....

Should be around RM500 for 215/45R17, but RE-001 already replaced with RE-002....

RE-001

RE-002

if i am not mistaken, it was around RM 400++ for RE001 215/45R17 but that was last year or last 2 years back.not so worried bout that since can find it at most tire shop but 255/40R17 really give me a headache.

How about RE002?have you ever tried it or any comment on that tire?

from that size to another size

I remember RE-001 started out at RM430 and some shops did give discount, after that it went up in price. For RE-002, have not tried, not even RE-001 because high price. Those days, I was getting S-Drives, Falken FK452, GY GS-D3 all at around RM380 only. No comments also from members for RE-002.....

Oh, then how do we see the difference in diameter as in the width of the tyres? Now that
I know that defines the Height of the sidewall...

Ya, i remember AD-07 discontinued. Not sure why all the good tyres they discontinue...:hmmmm:

Tire Size Calculator - tire & wheel plus sizing

Diameter calculation is long process. If change rim size must add in also, therefore simply go to this website, key in the tyre sizes and it will calculate for you. Those days got to calculate, nowadays website got, just need to know how to use and read them.....:driver:

It's alright..
I don't mind sacrificing a bit of comfort for stability..
:driver:
Lowering the aspect ratio, make sure you compensate with tyre width or upgrade rim size to get as close as possible figures to original tyre size diameter.....
