Subaru recently revealed their new Impreza at the 2016 New York International Motor Show and it is the first model of the brand which will be using the new global platform. The new Impreza will come in two variants, one in sedan configuration and the other is a five-door hatchback aimed to offer a more involving driving experience and higher levels of comfort.
The new Impreza now has a longer wheelbase by 1.0-inch compared to the previous model, as well as being 1.5-inches wider, 1.6-inches longer and 0.4-inches lower. Aside from improving the shape of the new Impreza, the lower height also made it more aerodynamic with a lower drag coefficient.
Perhaps the highlight of this new Impreza is the company’s new global platform which is 70-percent stiffer and improves crash energy absorption by 40-percent compared to the one it replaces. This allows Subaru to further lower the centre of gravity and re-engineer the suspension setup. Subaru mentioned that this is the biggest-ever leap in the brand’s performance evolution.
Both the models will receive Subaru’s revised 2.0-liter boxer petrol engine which churns out 152-horsepower compared to the previous 148-horsepower. Subaru had also added direct fuel injection and made some minor changes to enhance the performance and drivability. Mated to the engine will be a CVT Lineartronic transmission offering seven preselected ratios in manual mode in higher trims.
Active Torque Vectoring will be offered for the Sport models and other exclusive features include LED daytime running lights, black-finish front grille, body-colour rocker panels and turn signal side mirrors.
This new generation of Impreza will continue to be offered with Subaru’s Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and the new Eyesight technologies like the Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Pre-Collision Braking and Lane Departure and Sway Warning. The Lane Keep Assist function will come as standard.
