Subaru may soon be one of the big names in the rallycross scene as Subaru of America had recently announced their long-term plan to participate in the RedBull Global Rallycross Championship. Jointly managed by STI and technical partner Vermont SportsCar, Subaru Rally Team USA will attend at least eight rounds of the 2016 GRC series and at the same time increasing the testing and development of their WRX STI GRC Supercar.
And Subaru is not putting a moderate expectation from their participation as they are targeting both the Driver’s and Manufacturer’s titles in the 2017 Championship, where they are lining up team drivers Bucky Lasek and Sverre Isachsen behind the wheel. Seasoned Subaru driver David Higgins will remain as lead test driver with the team.
Subaru will be making an appearance at the Dallas round this coming June 3 at Texas where both drivers attending the Base round on July 2-3. “We are taking some important steps this season to increase our technical and engineering efforts,” said Lance Smith, Vermont SportsCar Team Principal.
“Vermont SportsCar is working closely with STI in 2016 to take this program to the next level and I’m really looking forward to the future,” he added.
