Are you one of the few that would still like a manual transmission for your car? If you are looking forward in owning an M5 or M6, than you better act quick as enthusiasts will only have a few months left to order these cars in manual as BMW will soon be dropping the manual from their line up once the new generation is introduced.

And this news is not some rumour either as it came from BMW M GmbH President himself, Frank van Meel. Speaking to Car & Driver, he said that the six-speed manual transmission offered does not appeal to M5 buyers anymore and will no longer be available after the current model’s departure from the production lines this fall.

The situation is also the same for the M6 where the demand for a manual “has dropped to zero” for such a model. This manual transmission was developed specifically for the US market and it has to cope with the 560-horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque produced by the 4.4-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

However, this decision does not affect the other M models in the line-up. “On M2, M3 and M4, the manual transmission will stay,” added van Meel.
