Since the iconic Golf GTI will soon celebrating its 40th birthday, Volkswagen reckoned that it deserves something special to commemorate this milestone. For that, they had decided to take one of the many concepts they have on the shelves and transform it into a production vehicle and the one lucky enough to make that jump is the new Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport.

In what could have been a godsend for those looking for more power and performance, the Clubsport packs almost everything needed for an exciting weekend track getaway. For starters, the Clubsport gets an extra 35PS from the GTI, totalling the 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine’s output to 265PS. But that is not all as it also has an overboost function that raises the power to 290PS for around ten seconds!

Mated to a standard six-speed manual gearbox, zerotohundred only takes 6 seconds while with the optional DSG drops is by 0.1 seconds. But both of them will do a top speed of 250 km/h which we have a big hunch is electronically limited. If fuel consumption concerns you, the Clubsport only sips 6.9 liters of petrol per 100km.

The car featured here is painted in Onyx white, but there will be other colours offered in the future along with a contrasting black roof. To differentiate this with the current GTI, it is fitted with sportier front and rear bumpers, new side sills, new rear diffuser, 18-inch alloys and a multi-part rear spoiler.

The black stripe on the sides symbolizes the original Golf GTI way back in 1976 and also features Clubsport letterings. It also gains dark red LED taillights, chrome-plated exhaust tips and a glossy finish for the rear diffuser.

On the inside, the race bucket seats are wrapped in Alcantara as well as the steering wheel which is adorned with the GTI emblem, 12 o’clock marking and red seam.
