With a projection of selling close to 9,000 units this year, UMW Toyota Motor ushers in 2015 with the introduction of the new Toyota Camry into its current line-up. Also introducing a new Hybrid variant of the model, UMW Toyota is expecting that from the 9,000 units mentioned earlier, 7,000 of them would be the hybrid variant.
“Now with a total sales of more than 116,000 units, we are proud to continue this flagship model and the new Camry will now come stronger with a much more dynamic design and technological advance,” said Datuk Ismet Suki. Also present at the launch were Tan Sri Asmat Kamaludin, Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor, Mr. Akio Takeyama, Deputy Chairman of UMW Toyota Motor, Mr. Toshihiro Nakaho, Deputy Chief Engineer, Toyota Motor Corporation and Datuk Syed Hisham Syed Wazir, President and Group CEO of UMW Holdings Bhd.
The new Camry will be offered in three variants; the 2.5-liter Hybrid, 2.0-liter G and E. The highlight of the three would definitely be the Hybrid model which comes with an array of new safety features such as 7 airbags, blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert system, and a Nano-e purifier which purifies the air with negative ions. Also included in the car is a wireless charger which is a first in its class. The Camry Hybrid comes with 200-horsepower and has excellent fuel economy.
On the Camry 2.0-liter G and E variants, the petrol engine produces 167ps and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The engine also features a new Variable Valve Timing – Intelligent Wide system, allowing the engine to run both conventional and Atkinson cycle. Both the G and E variants are aimed to achieve high power output with best fuel economy and low emissions.
The new Toyota Camry will be priced between RM 149,900 – RM 174,900 and UMW Toyota will be offering 8 years assurance program for the hybrid battery to take away any doubts from customers who might be first time owners of a hybrid vehicle. Standard vehicle warranty of 3 years or 100,000km, whichever comes first, is applied on both the Hybrid and the 2.0-liter variants.
