When Mitsubishi US CEO Don Swearingen announced that the Evolution’s time had “come and gone” and there would be no direct replacement for the car once the 2015 model is out, it was not really the piece of news we were waiting to hear. While that might be depressing news for all of us, at least Mitsubishi had the decency to give the Evolution one last hurrah with a special edition model to mark its end.

Details are still pretty scarce on this new model, but we now know that this new concept will be called the “Lancer Evolution X Final Concept” and it is set to make its appearance at the upcoming 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon.

This concept will be based on the fully-armed Evolution GSR which comes with a five-speed manual, a reworked 2.0-liter turbocharged engine by HKS that features a new turbocharger setup, high-flow intake and exhaust systems, an upgraded intercooler and a recalibration of the ECU. All of these upgrades will pump up the output of the Evolution X from the stock 291-horsepower to a massive 473-horsepower.

The concept will be fitted with 19-inch RAYS forged aluminium wheels wrapped in Yokohama Advan Neova tires and also riding lower than the standard Evolution thanks to the HKS-tuned adjustable suspension. Some minor visual tweaks could also be found such as a matte black finish to the exterior and contrast red stitching for the interior.
