BMW recently welcomed two new additions into the Malaysian premium automotive market – one being the all-new locally assembled BMW 1 series alongside the BMW 2 series Gran Tourer. The launch took place at Publika’s The Square and was in conjunction of the second series of the BMW Safety 360º program.
Starting with the 1 series, this model steps in less than two years after the F20 1 series made its debut in Malaysia. Nevertheless, the new facelifted model certainly has that sportier look, given a reshaped kidney grille with slimmer headlamps where LED headlights and Adaptive LED headlights come as options. The L-shaped LED taillights as well as the redesigned tailgate and rear bumper adds up to the sportiness.
The interior of the 120i M Sport features a combination of Alcantara and cloth seats and the sports seats with electrical adjustment functionality comes as standard. It also gets an 8.8” free standing screen on its dashboard on its dashboard – the largest in its class. Another feature that the 120i M gets is the Driver Experience Control which features the Sport mode for a more dynamic drive.
Powering the car is a 1.6-liter four cylinder petrol engine with BMW’s TwinPower Turbo technology, pushing out 177-horsepower and 250Nm of torque. Zerotohundred only takes about 7.2 seconds and will keep on climbing until it hits the top speed of222km/h. And such figures also come with an average fuel consumption reading of 5.9l/100km and a CO2 emissions level of 137g/km.
The estimated retail prices (on the road, without insurance with BMW Malaysia’s latest 5 Years Unlimited Mileage Warranty and Free Scheduled Service Program) of the BMW 120i M Sport is RM 219,800.00.
To those having a family but would still like to own a proper BMW, the 2 series Gran Tourer might be the perfect candidate for you. This new seven-seater MPV comes with a longer wheelbase and higher roofline compared to the 2 series Active Tourer by 214mm in length, 53mm in height and 110mm in length of the wheelbase.
And if one wishes for more cargo space, the 645 to 805 litres of luggage compartment can be added up to 1,905 litres by folding the third row rear seats. The second seat row offers space for three universal child seats, and a further two universal child seats can be fitted in the third row.
The spaciousness of the 2 series Gran Tourer however does not compromise its sportiness as it has a low windscreen and high bonnet to reduce its perceived height. The LED headlights with BMW daytime-running lights are available as an upgrade and it also gets the L-shaped taillights with LED strip.
Under the hood lies a 2.0-liter four cylinder petrol engine also with the TwinPower Turbo technology, giving the MPV 192-horsepower and 280Nm of torque. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission, zerotohundred only takes 7.7 seconds. The estimated retail prices (on the road, without insurance with BMW Malaysia’s latest 5 Years Unlimited Mileage Warranty and Free Scheduled Service Program) of the BMW 220i Gran Tourer is RM 279, 800.00.
