The development of the Ferrari California’s replacement has been going on for some time, with rumours going about that this time it will be turbocharged. The rumours can now be confirmed as Ferrari had recently taken away the covers on their new California T, which by now you would have guessed that the ‘T’ stands for turbocharged.

Powered by a 3.9-liter twin-turbocharged V8 engine based on the force-fed unit introduced on the Maserati Quattroporte and Ghibli sedans, the California T has 552-horsepower and 557 lb-ft of torque in its disposal. That is simply more than the naturally-aspirated California with the 4.3-liter V8 pushing out 483-horsepower and 373 lb-ft of torque.

Ferrari said that the California T can do a zerotohundred dash in 3.6 seconds, 0.2 seconds faster than the old California and will have a higher top speed of 316 km/h. And when fitted with the available ‘HELE’ fuel-saving technology, it returns a fuel consumption of 10.5l/100km with CO2 emissions of 250g/km.

As for the styling, the California T combines elements from the F12 Berlinetta and the FF. These includes the redesigned front end with different lights, a vented hood, bigger grille, reshaped bumper, new flanks and a new rear diffuser. The car still retains its hardtop roof and is able to retract into the boot in 14 seconds.
