If the new Mazda MX-5 makes you drool uncontrollably, then this one should make you go berserk. This cute and lightweight roadster will soon be making a lot of appearances on the track as Mazda had recently announced the establishment of a new racing series.
Set to take place in 2016, the new Global MX-5 race series will take place in North America, Europe and Asia, where all the participants will be driving in the identically-prepped cars powered by a 2.0-liter SKYACTIV-G four-cylinder engine. And at the end of the season, a Global Shootout will be held and taking place at none other than the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California.
“We’re excited to take the elements of success of the existing Mazda MX-5 cup series, and introduce them to a new global audience,” said the Mazda Global Sales Manager, Masahiro Moro. “It has long been our goal to see Mazda fans around the world competing in identical MX-5s, and the launch of the 2016 MX-5 Miata is the perfect time to make this goal a reality.”
Plenty of prizes are being offered to the winners, but the top dog will earn him/herself a one-day test in Mazda’s TUDOR United SportsCar Championship diesel prototype race car.
