With the unveiling of Honda’s hottest model drawing closer and closer, the hype has definitely grown as well. We have posted news of the next generation Honda Civic Type R here, here and here. So what we have here can be rather surprising news.

What the blokes at CarScoops have stumbled across is what seems to be the Honda Civic Type R, but it is much closer to production form. Those who read previous articles would have noticed (and probably hated) the tail lights that adorned practically the whole rear spoiler. Besides that, the front wheel arches aren’t as swollen as on the previous spyshots. Also spied are some red Brembo calipers up front, while the red theme continues inside, with the Civic Type R’s bucket seats being wrapped in red leather.

The new generation Civic Type R, for the first time, will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0L engine. Some Honda fanboys may be screaming now, but this engine, will make more than 280 hp, with some sources claiming that it’ll produce almost 320 hp. Horsepower count, already puts the new Civic Type R above the old NSX-R. Like a true enthusiast car, the Civic Type R will only be offered with a 6 speed stick shift. It would be interesting to see how Honda manages with torque steer, as the new CIvic Type R has power going to the front wheels only.

Also new to the CIvic Type R is the +R Sports Mode button located on the steering wheel. When pressed, the +R button will alter the throttle response, damper stiffness and torque curve. A first for Honda’s hot hatch, as the Civic Type R is positioned to challenge even the likes of the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG.
