Next Mazda MX-5 To Feature Kodo Design!

With the current Mazda MX-5 being almost 10 years old, Mazda is working on a replacement model that’s set to supersede the current model. From what we have gathered, the replacement model is set to be revealed online on 3rd September, a whole month before the official launch at the Paris Motor Show. The new MX-5 is said to feature Mazda’s new Kodo design language, but interestingly, will retail the signature oval grille.

The move to revert back to the oval grille may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but it will be interesting, nonetheless, to see how Mazda incorporates their Kodo design onto the MX-5.

It is also worth noting that Mazda will be using their tried and tested SkyActiv technology in the new MX-5, although there has been no concrete suggestion to as what particular engine choices will the Mazda MX-5 offer. A 1.5L engine is said to be powering the entry level variant of the MX-5. The car’s weight will also be reduced, quite possibly touching the 1,000 kg mark when optioned with the fabric top roof.

Below is a spy video recorded by a Japanese chap who caught a taped up MX-5 in Japan. We do apologize for any heck injuries.

From the clip, it is obvious that the next generation MX-5 has a curvier body compared to the last generation, and very likely wider wheel arches.

Do stay tuned as we bring you more updates about the new Mazda MX-5.
