If we could get RM1 for every time a ‘rumour’ about the revival of the Mazda RX7 surfaces, surely we will be utterly rich by now. And to make matters worse, sometimes these rumours are not really backed up by a credible source, unlike this new piece of news we have just received. It seems that any hopes and dreams of seeing a new rotary-powered sports car from Mazda is lost into the abyss as the automaker’s CEO had just confirmed of not having any plans of making one.
“We don’t have that kind of vehicle in our future product plan. If you increase the number of segments, then the resources we can allocate to each will decline and that will prevent us from developing truly good products,” said Mazda CEO Masamichi Kogai to Automotive News.
Mazda will instead be focusing on channelling their limited resources on improving their fuel-saving SKYACTIV technologies, and at the same time launching models in higher volume segments. Mazda recently launched the new version of their famed MX-5 and last week at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show saw them introducing the new CX-3 subcompact, as well as the refreshed 5 and CX-9.
