VW Reveals their Limited-Run Road-Going 217-HP Polo R WRC!

In the aim to homologate a WRC Rally car, one of the FIA rule states that there should be at least 2,500 units of the road-going version built by the particular manufacturer. With Volkswagen shining bright in the rally arena with their Polo WRC, the German car manufacturer had just released a set of pictures, revealing their most powerful production Polo ever made.

Although it is called the Polo R WRC and bears decals, this limited run hatchback is far from its dirt-kicking cousin. For starters, it is front-wheel drive instead of four-wheel drive and although it has a larger engine, the 2.0-liter powerplant only produces 217-horsepower compared to the 1.6-liter engine that provides 300-horsepower to the rally machine.

Nevertheless, strapping in a Golf GTI engine and a six-speed manual gearbox in a Polo properly displays what the Polo R WRC is capable of. Zerotohundred is dealt in just 6.4 seconds, and is able to go all the way to a top speed of 243 km/h.

To nail down all those horses is in no doubt being quite a challenge, but VW said that the Polo R WRC handles well, thanks to a sports suspension and an electric differential lock. Priced at RM 140,310, this limited production car is also equipped with tonnes of goodies like 18-inch Cagliari alloy wheels, standard bi-xenon headlights, sports seats, cruise control, radio navigation unit and a lot more.
